| 54 JOHN COOPERS! |
| Today we embarked upon our first leg of our quest to fine 54 John Coopers, I feel it has been a quite successful day, it all started at 12, Mark rang my doorbell, he hd a smile on his face and a skip in his step. I grabbed my John Cooper hunting bag, and whent o grab my sunglasses, the first disappointment of the day; i had left them in Leeds the day before, this disheartened me, but i managed to drag myself on. We were heading for New Earswich, to meet a John Cooper we had spoken to the previous day, The bike ride was quite short, and we arived at JC1's house about 45 mins early so we sat on some grass and waited, soon enough we saw a elderly man walking at 0.005 MPH down the stret. He wandered into thye house we were sat infrount off and offed us a few odd looks, we had our man. We shook his hand and offed him our name, he looked a littel confused. We were invite in and soon Mark and me were sat in a typical old person's house. I had not yet considered what I was going to say to him. For a while we sat in silence, just looking at each other. "So, whats your name?" I offered, "Guess" Said the old man, "John Cooper?" I Offered, (Silence) "I noticed you had a middel name with the initial D as wekk..." I said hoping to find out what it stood for. "that is correct" confirmed the old man I did not push the matter; conversation flowed like this for around 2 mins, until I asked his age to which he said, "guess" Mark offed 65, to which John looked offended by, after a few more guesses he told us it was his birthday on monday, the same day as marks. we told him this and in return we got howls of laughter. The meeting did not run smoothly but we managed ti get a photo in the end. Before we said our goodbye's i asked if he knew any other John Coopers, john told us that a few years back there had been 4 living in his street alown, but they AND all passed on now. His wife did however tell us of a John cooper she had heard about from a youth theatre company. She took marks number and promised to call. We set off on the bike ride back to york feeling warmed inside, we had meet our first john cooper. We might have Scared him, but we had meet him Back in York We headed straight for York Leasure serves, only to discover that the office had moved, on ur way to the new office Mark got a call from MRS John Cooper 1, tellign us she had gottan hold off John Coopers number for us. We ran to a pay phone, i put in 20p and rang the mumber. It ran 4 times when a though occurred to me, "Hello" said a female voice. I slammed the receiver down. We had already spoken to the John the day before, he said he was going on holiday and told us not to call him untill he was back in a few weeks, instead of looking stupid I decided to ptu the phone down, I made one more call for the day, to a woman who said she could not give Johns number out, but she would try and get him to call mark. We played our last few cards for the day, Mark and I when to the station, we made a sign saying John Cooper and sat ther for a hour waiting to be aproched by them, NO LOOK AT ALL. The last trip of the day was to major insurance company in York, I walked into the main building , and was faced with a fat man at a desk. Mark walked over to the water machine and drank. "hello, I was wondering if you have a man called John Cooper workign for you?" "which one are you lookign for?" Successes! "Well I am not lookign for one in paticular, We are just looking for john coopers to meet" FUNNY LOOK "Oh, sorry the only john cooper we have just left us 22 days ago now, sorry"; GUTTED "we have a Johnny Cooper" did we look like we were lookign for johnnys! |
