David
Pirmann's Metro-North page
Description:
This page, a subsection of a
subway site belonging to David Pirmann, is dedicated totally
to Metro-North. It has roughly 10 pages, and it has a lot of
photos, therefore I would highly recommend visiting it.
Pierce Haviland's
(mostly) Metro-North site
Description:
This site is titled as a New
York area railfanning page, but it is mostly a Metro-North
page, and elements of other stuff mixed in, mostly New Jersey
Transit. It is very informative, the information is close to
100% verifiably accurate, and there are a relatively good deal
of photos, mostly of Fl-9s, hence the sites banner "Home of
the Fl-9s". There is even a place to buy Fl-9 Merchandise!
It's not too well organized though, and kinda spread out.
Recommendation: Bookmark it!!
P. J.
C.'s Amtrak/Metro-North/LIRR page
Description:
This site is mixed, really
only a few pages, some on Amtrak, LIRR, Metro-North and some
Conrail, but it does have a lot of photos, the Metro-North
ones are mostly of Fl-9s.
Recomendation:
definitely worth a
visit
Valhalla Video, has an Fl-9 video
Description:
Valhalla video offers a video
of Fl-9s on the Hudson line. The page mentioned is part of a
larger site, I think I've linked to the right one, but I'm not
sure. The site offers one small preview picture of Fl-9 2022.
Recommendation: If
you've got a couple of bucks spare and want an Fl-9 video, you
may find this interesting.
The Official
Metro-North site
Description:
This site is the official MTA
Metro-North site. It is all current info such as schedules and
fares. It does have a very nice map.
Recommendation: very
good for official information.
* * The Metro-North Railroad forum * *
Description:
The Metro-North forum run by
railroad.net, is a forum where Metro-North railfans can air
their views and put questions to the forum. Very busy last I
checked
Recommendation:
Serious MN railfans should visit (and contribute to) this
board every few days as there is very good information to be
exchanged.
The Northeast Railfan
pages
Description:
The "Northeast Railfan Pages"
belongs to Steven P. Kohart, who I guarantee you is no amateur,
he sure knows what he is doing. The site covers several
North-Eastern railroads and their predecessors, not just
Metro-North, although Metro-North has a significant share of
the site. There is lots of variety, Fl-9s, Gennys, MUs,
coaches etc. He even has a nice "Project Fl-9" Unfortunately,
he uses the Gif format for pictures,
which is designed for technical drawings, cartoons, and is
generally NOT suitable for photographs of any type. When used
for photos, gifs are twice the file size of Jpegs (longer to
download) and nowhere near the quality of Jpegs. About ¼ of
the photos on the site are Gifs, the other 3/4 Jpegs.
Recommendation: Visit
the site, but before adding one of the Gif photos to your
library, convert them to Jpg files and use photo editing
software to soften/smoothen them.
