| HOW
ARE CONCRETE COUNTERTOPS MADE? |
Your tops are
pre-cast at our shop in Seattle. We build custom
molds for each job. The tops are then poured, cured,
sealed and finished. At C.C.C. we work directly with
the customer, allowing you more freedom in your
design..
|
| DO
THE COUNTERTOPS CRACK? |
Yes. Not
always, but they can develop hairline cracks in
thinner areas due to the natural shrinkage of cement.
These cracks are non-structural, so don't worry, your
counter will not fall apart. To help avoid this,
rebar, wire mesh, and poly fibers are used to
strengthen the product. Concrete, although workable,
will still have some irregularities. Hairline cracks
and slight imperfections are a natural part of the
appeal of concrete. Although the imperfections and
cracks can be repaired, the result is often more
obvious and "man made" looking than the
"naturally occurring" irregularities.

| WILL
MY CABINETS SUPPORT THE WEIGHT? |
Yes. Concrete
weighs about 22 lbs. per square foot at a two inch
thickness. Standard cabinetry will support the weight
as it is distribued over a large area . So you don't
have to worry about them falling through the floor.
|
| WILL
THE COUNTERTOPS STAIN? |
Like granite
and marble, concrete can stain if mark's are not
cleaned up right away. At C.C.C. we seal our tops
with three coats of penetrating sealer and a finish
coat on the surface. We recommend that the homeowner
wax the tops with a water-based wax on a regular
basis to help prevent stains.
|
| CAN
I CUT ON THE COUNTERTOPS? |
Although
cutting on the tops will not hurt them, it can
sometimes leave small marks as well as effect the
sealers ability to keep out water and stains. *Ask
about inlaying maple cutting blocks into your top.
|
| CAN
I PUT HOT PANS ON THE COUNTERTOPS? |
C.C.C. does
not recommend hot pans on the surface. Although
concrete very heat resistant, there is a chance that
the heat can compromise or discolor the sealer. *Ask
about built-in stainless, brass, or copper trivets
next to the stove area for that purpose.
|
| CLEANING
YOUR COUNTERTOPS |
Avoid using
abrasive soaps or cleansers on your top. We suggest a
mild, non-abrasive, non-ammoniated soap for daily
cleaning. In short, cleaning your countertops will be
no more difficult than cleaning any other type of
countertop.
