Quick Beef Sausages

1/8 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. beef stock
230 g (8 oz) lean ground beef
1 garlic cloves, crushed
1/8 tsp. thyme
1/8 tsp. allspice, ground
1/8 tsp. cloves, ground
Combine baking soda and stock in a bowl until dissolved. Add remaining ingredients and salt and pepper to taste. Knead with your hands until well blended. With hands rinsed in cold water, form mixture into 4 compact sausages about 8 cm (3 in.) long and 4 cm (1-1/2 in.) thick. If desired, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve, up to 24 hours. Prepare grill or broiler. Grill or broil sausages 4 inches from heat source about 5 minutes, or longer if desired.
