Tested, its safe so far! Coolant Fan Rig Modification, by ContourKev
From what I have seen, the Ford Contours run with a ECT to control the Coolant Fan. Though my fan wont work, I bet many other contours have the same problem, the result in this is the engine would overheat. From letting my engine overheat, I unplugged this sensor, and the fan went on, and my Temp Gague dropped down to about NO on the NORMAL List. before it was above the AL, when I pulled over. I took a look in Haynes manual, this sensor works on resistant it seems like, after it gets to a certain point, it would be about 2k of resistance (or similar) till this fan started. Well when I unplug it, it goees to .0 Ohms, the car goes into a Safe mode to say. Now if we short this sensor, the resistance is about .4 ohms. Yet your fan will go on, and CEL will popup (Check Engine Light) But hey, why pay FORD $400+ dollars to get something fixed, when you can goto Radio Shack, and pick up a few wiring and a cheap switch for about less than $20?
Now taking 2 seperate wires, you could stick em in the holes of the ECT wiring harness, and then run them to the firewall, and hopefully there is an entrance where mine is, it is easier, or you can run em though another entrance, Drilling holes is a pain in the ass.
