| The three musicians involved in this project have been working together since 1997. They have acknowledged communication as their common meeting point in jazz, and therefore, as the axis of their artistic work. Brought together mainly by chance and encouraged by their having been part of many jazz groups of various different tendencies, these musicians were always driven by their styles and roots which, though varied, always made them converge in activities such as: studying, listening, conversing and working over the jazz music that has been developed in Mexico for some time now. They have worked together in projects such as Crneo de Jade, the Eduardo Piastro group and the Iraida Noriega group, but they have mostly come together in the Alejandro Campos Quartet. This allowed them to work solidly and constantly and led to a recording where most of the compositions are Nicols Santella's originals. One can perceive several threads of musical identity drawn over the final texture: the humor in Monks music, the stylistic continuum developed by Marcus Roberts, an unavoidable nostalgic tint of tango (due to Santella's and Hecht's Argentinian origin) as well as a certain contemporary color. The project was born out of a lengthy musical and personal coexistence among the members-- the kind of situation they try to recreate auditively by establishing a three-part conversation, or in any case, a work held in one of the most classic jazz formats: the piano trio. The Trio has played in Blas Galindo Auditorium (CNA), Plaza de las Artes (CNA) , Arts Festival Arte 01 and Arte 02, Jazz Festival in San Miguel de Allende 2002, International Festival Puebla 2002, Internacional Jazz Festival Campeche 2002, Encuentro internacional de Baterias y Percusiones en Puebla 2002, Jazz Festival Jazz Attack UNAM Radio 2002, Jazz Festival at Escuela Superior de Msica, Jazz Festival at Museo Universitario del Chopo, ArtLife JazzFest, JazzHabito 2002 , Jazz Festival Jazz en el Bosque 2003 , Cultural Festival The Underground Generation. |
