The Beaver
Dam C-LAN started way back during the very beginning of the 2003 summer
when my friend and I decided that sitting around in the big BD was boring
us out of our minds so we (Zakk Prisk and Robert Goncalo) decided that we
should get together and try to play SOCOM using two TV’s, two Playstation
2's and a router.
I didn't
have a router at the time so Zakk forced me to get out and buy a router.
It took me 3 months before I actually went out there and got one. So the
second I got it I called him up and he came over then we began to play.
It was super fun being able to be on opposite sides and check out where
the enemy is hiding, talking smack to other teammates with your buddy in
the same room as you, or just being idiots using the headset to chat with
each other.
Then
Prisk and I realized that SOCOM was super fun but with more people that
would be even better. So we called up another friend Phil Derencius and
he would go to the small SOCOM LANS whenever we had them. Then sometimes
Phil wouldn't be able to go so we would have another friend, Jim Nosrati,
come over and he would play. Eventually we got more and more people to come.
And we have been doing it since then.
Then
one time during our LAN's I checked my email only to find that I was eligible
for the SOCOM 2 beta. I damn near shit my pants when I saw this because
I was already beta testing FFXI and now SOCOM 2. I ran out and told all
my friends and so they checked their emails and they got in too. On the
day of the beta release Phil and Zakk came over and realized how awesome
the game will be upon its official release.
On the
official release of the SOCOM 2 game we skipped school watched The Matrix
Reloaded and then went and got a copy of the SOCOM 2 game. After that we
had a huge LAN with like 5 or 6 people (huge for us at the time). Then soon
after that I got burnt out of playing SOCOM all together because it was
just pissing me off more than I was having fun. So I suggested to my friends
that we play different games because not everyone was a SOCOM person.
Then
I realized that Xbox games were almost always system link compatible and
we got into Halo. Then we soon got burnt on that too because Artie Nosrati
(Jims brother) and Me (G-Crash) were the two best Halo players in our LAN
group and possibly the school, if not our whole town. Eventually people
started to hate Halo so we have moved on to bigger and better games like,
Unreal Championship, soon Rainbow Six 3 and more in the future.
Since
we have gotten so big and so far another friend Zach Neuman says we needed
a name so Prisk and I decided upon the name C-LAN standing for "CONSOLE
LAN". We had to be distinct on the name because there is also another
group of “lanners” in our town but they use computers to LAN
it up and we REALLY don't want to be confused with them because we aren't
too fond of computer LANs.
So that’s
my story and I’m.....stickin’ to it...
