Swing keel pivot leak repair
When we bought our boat, there was a small amount of leakage at both ends of the swing keel pivot, which I had expected. I decided to eliminate it if possible. I had read of many Balboa owners finding sealants and/or various  of rubber gasket materials under the nuts and washers on each end of the keel pin. Because of our boat's apparent long history of benign neglect, I think the keel pivot assembly had never been taken apart. What I found underneath was mostly likely the original packing material. Here are some pictures of how the repair was done.
Showing materials: rubber sheet squares, a slice cut from a boat trailer rubber roller (using a hacksaw, and then shaped with an X-Acto knife), original Balboa ss washer (they are cupped, and the slice of trailer roller fits to the inner, concave surface, original Balboa ss nut (note machined flange on inner side only -the side facing washer)
Showing boat roller cut & roughly shaped to fit the conical washer.
View of starboard-side end of keel pivot bolt. Note bushing through hull is visible. Also note very small gap between bushing and fiberglass of hull above keel pin. Darker circular area is same size as conical washer. Outer edge of washer has slightly cut into fiberglass.
Space between fiberglass and washer was filled with 3-strand graphite-impregnated cord used as a packing material. I believe this to be the original Balboa material.
