But someone will say, "What about 2 Peter 3? Doesn't that teach that the world will burn up in fire?" That is a good question. The "elements" in 2 Peter 3 are referring to the elementary priciples of the Old Covenant. They were about to be destroyed when the Temple was destroyed on 70 A.D (see Elements In 2 Peter 3). The "Old Heavens and Old Earth" denotes the Old Covenant and the "New Heavens and New Earth" denotes the New Covenant..
