Fifth Annual Hörcktöberfest
October 30, 1999
Most likely in the same place as the previous tournament

About the Event

This is the last tournament of the Millenium and as Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, we get to enjoy a Saturday tournament and party but still close to Halloween.

Well, from the huge supply of suggestions we got (that is sarcasm) we have narrowed the field down to the following theme:

"Losers always whine about doing their best!"
The image will be that of a famous Edward in Rock - and NO, it is not the Edward you are probably going to think of first.

Horcktoberfest 1999 will be one to remember. It started out pleasant enough, a nice cool autum morning; everyone in high spirits. No foils though - seems all the foilists were hoping to use other persons weapons... a quick dash in a car and the day is saved.

Saber runs rather smoothly, though the victor, Mike, narrowly wins every bout almost: (5:2, 5:4, 5:4, 5:4, 5:3) - it was a hard fought and well deserved win. In Foil, things get interesting when Wes Dion, of all people, comes out of nowhere and takes the victory in decisive fashion, finally achieving glory. But then the skys darken, and Epee` starts. First Gus and Ryan try to beat each other sensless - then the rains come and the strip turns into a slip-n-slide. First Jonathan experiences aquaplaning and promptly slides into Rayma who goes face first into the strip. Whack, they are out for the count. Soon Ben tasts the joy of not having his feet on the ground. Rayma again is taken by the gods of water but fights on valiantly from a semi-split position that really looked like it would hurt.

The tournament ends in a downpour, most people cowering under the roof -some brave souls judging the final bouts and the score keeper cowering under the umbrella trying to get the pen to write on wet paper. Rayma fights through being whipped, bowled over, knocked over, pummeled and slipping to take the Epee victory in a comeback. Jonathan surprises everyone with an incredible performance for a first time participant in his second place epee finish. Some will find themselves VERY sore and VERY hung-over tomorrow. But that is tomorrow and today does not end until midnight!

The event is a CSFA organized event designed to remove the fencers from the typical surroundings of competition. It was conceived in the twisted little minds of the Founders: Thomas Smailus, George Fuller, Beth Hughes.

The Horcktoberfest used the current CSFA rules of the event. Also, do not forget about the Insignia Guidelines.
