Subject: Book chat?

http://www.geocities.com/coney36_nyy/

Hi everyone! I thought I would check and see how everyone is coming along
in Angell's book, and if there are people still interested in having a
scheduled book chat? Also, if anyone just wants to chat at any time, the
room is there! If you don't have mIRC or any other IRC programs, you can
download it very quickly at www.mirc.com! The link can also be found on
the Coney's Court page of the site, along with the server (irc.eskimo.com)
and the channel name (#ConeysCourt)! :) Again if anyone needs any help
with mIRC or how to get it, don't hesitate to ask!

Also don't forget, David pitches tomorrow! :) *Yay*! :)

Take care! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Subject: Cone may have the flu..?? :(

http://www.geocities.com/coney36_nyy/

The bug that has infiltrated the Sox clubhouse has claimed another victim,
Scott Hatteberg, who was home in his sickbed during last night's 4-2 loss
to the Marlins. Manny Ramirez, who missed two games with the flu symptoms,
was back in the designated hitter slot, going 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.
And Chris Stynes, who missed Tuesday's game, was back in uniform, though
still under the weather. He did not play. Several other players were
coping with milder symptoms.

''It's going through the clubhouse right now,'' Williams said. ''It
knocked those guys pretty good. Whatever it is, it knocks them.''

Cone, who is scheduled to start tonight's series finale, said he felt run
down but ''all right.''

''There's no way to avoid it,'' he said of the bug. ''There's so much
contact in the clubhouse, shaking hands, sharing water bottles, not to
mention the baseball itself.''
------
Man, I hope he's okay!! He doesn't need this right now!! :( :( Keep good
thoughts for him!!

Take care~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Subject: Cone gets it together

By Howard Ulman, Associated Press, 06/14/01

BOSTON-Brian Daubach hit the first grand slam of his
career and David Cone's comeback progressed with seven
strong innings as the Boston Red Sox beat the Florida Marlins
6-4 Thursday night.

Daubach's 11th homer of the season erased a 3-0 lead Florida
had taken in the second on Mike Lowell's solo homer and
Derrek Lee's two-run shot.

That was the only inning in which Cone (2-1) struggled as he allowed
just two runners on a walk to Lowell and a single by Kevin Millar in
his last five innings. Rich Garces replaced Cone to start the eighth.
Cone retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced. In his previous
appearance, a 3-2 win over Philadelphia last Friday that was his first
victory in nine starts, he retired 12 of the last 15 hitters.
Rod Beck pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.

For the fifth time this season, the Marlins (31-33) lost a game
that would have put them at .500 for the first time. Except for
the homers, they hit only eight balls out of the infield.

Boston signed Cone after his worst season, 4-14 with a 6.91
ERA with the New York Yankees. Then arm problems delayed
his first start for Boston until May 17.

He went 0-1 in his first four starts, three of them Boston
losses, and struggled with his control in two of them. But in
his two starts since then, he's walked just one batter. And in
his last three starts, he pitched five, six, then seven innings.

On Thursday, Cone struck out two, walked one and allowed
three runs and four hits. Garces gave up an unearned run that
made it 5-4 in the eighth when Cliff Floyd singled, stole second
and scored when right fielder Trot Nixon dropped Lowell's fly
ball for an error.

Boston managed one hit off Chuck Smith (3-2) in the first three
innings before going ahead with four runs in the fourth.
Singles by Nixon, Carl Everett and Dante Bichette loaded the
bases. Daubach then hit an 0-1 pitch to straightaway center
field. The grand slam extended his hitting streak to seven
games and gave him 23 extra-base hits among his 45 hits.

The Red Sox made it 5-3 in the seventh when Chris Stynes
doubled, took third on a groundout and scored on Doug
Mirabelli's sacrifice fly.

Hi everyone! Well it was a *fabulous* game for David, I am so happy for
him! He was so much more economical with his pitches...he only used 7 in
the first inning as he went 1-2-3...and by the middle of his 5th he was
only at 63! He should be very proud of what he is accomplishing... The
homeruns still have me a little concerned, but I think his 6 *wonderful*
shutout innings totally make up for the one botched up one...:) He threw
92 pitches in total, lowered his ERA, and he has a winning record! Not a
bad night at all...! :) "Go, David, Go!!" :)

Again, I have to give kudos to the Red Sox offense...that grand slam from
Daubach was *too cool*!!! :)

Good morning all!

It's been a crazy past few weeks! The yanks lost another game last night
and now all this talk of Tino getting the boot- I really hope he stays..
unlike some fans (the same ones who bashed David last season no doubt), I
don't forget all the wonderful things Tino has done for our team! Another
core memeber leaving just breaks my heart even more :(

Anyway- I haven't heard from a few of you in a while and thought we could
meet up in the coney's court chat room after David's start tonight. It
would be a nice way to discuss David's progress, his book or anything else
for that matter...

Get in touch with KC, our resident computer guru and she'll tell you how to
get in the chat room.. it's really easy! Heck, if this computer novice can
do it anyone can!

Hope to see some of you later!

Have a great day!

Thanks Ally.. we'll look for you later... maybe, if you can make it! We can
always discuss Paulie too if you'd like ;)

I just thought it would be a nice way to get to know one another better
(unfortunately I won't be there to meet most of you on Old Timer's Day),
plus to let KC know what a great job she does on the site too!

I hear ya about being hectic tho... hmm.. let's see I will probably stop in
about 9:30 or 10:00.. right before I sign off for the night, so hopefully
that time period will work out for most!

around after the game since I have to update the site... I hope to see
lots of you there! Ally, sounds like you're pretty busy, hope you get
time to relax, and if you have a chance to join us tonight, that would be
fabulous! :)

Hi everyone! Well, Cone didn't get the win, but he still pitched quite
well! We still need to see a game without him giving up a homerun, that's
a concern right now...but I think he is doing very well! He still lowered
his ERA a few points to 4.50...so that is good! :)

Yeah! :):):) Many thanks for sending that Susan.. it was nice to relive
some good old memories(sniff, sniff). And David looks so cute in that
commercial!

anyway... it takes a long time to load..I have to say I thought I had not
installed quick time properly but then realized it was just me being
impatient!! LOL

Hey.. I know this is kind of off the subject... but now that it's Thursday..
does that mean Tino is a Yankee for the rest of the season? Didn't the
Yanks have until midnight yesterday to deal him?

off to read about David..gads! If Boston HAD to win I would have at least
liked to have seen him get the "w"

Subject: David's Game

Cone doesn't lose a thing
by Michael Silverman
Thursday, June 21, 2001
http://wwww.bostonherald.com/sport/baseball/cone06212001.htm

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Just like his season, David Cone's evening last
night kept getting better and better.

He surrendered a game-tying home run to Fred McGriff in the sixth but
got to watch as the Red Sox exploded for six runs in the eighth to win
the game, 8-2.

After seeing his teammates lose their first three games he started,
they have now won in his last four starts. He had no fastball to speak
of to start the game, but it was zipping by the end.

``Late life,'' he called the movement on his fastball. The same could
be said for the 38-year-old Cone, whose decision to come to the Red
Sox is looking better and better now, too.

``I didn't expect to break down in spring training,'' he said. ``It
wasn't exactly how I envisioned it, but hopefully I can pitch in
meaningful games down the stretch. That's my goal.''

And for as long as his no-decisions accompany Red Sox wins, he is
unconcerned about bettering his 2-1 record.

``As long as the team wins, this is great,'' said Cone, who struck out
four, walked two and allowed six hits and two runs in his 5 innings
(92 pitches). ``If we lose this game, I'm still kicking myself for the
pitch to McGriff.

``The fact that (Red Sox reliever Rich Garces) El Guapo picked me up
and I got out of that inning in the sixth and we came back to score a
bunch of runs really makes my night seem a lot better.''

Cone faced just one batter over the minimum through the first 3
innings and he started the fourth with two quick outs before meeting
up with his first test of the evening.

He passed this one. He put on three successive batters with a pair of
walks and a single, before getting Mike DiFelice to end the
bases-loaded threat with a foul pop-up.

In that inning, Cone began throwing more fastballs - more effective
and lively fastballs. In his final inning, the sixth, he came out
strong by striking out Randy Winn with a fastball. Then came a single
to Greg Vaughn, followed by McGriff's home run on a 3-2 count.

``Obviously, the pitch to McGriff I'd like to have back, but sometimes
you have to give the other guy credit,'' said Cone. ``I tried to throw
a back-door slider on the outside corner and I left it over the
middle. I really give him lot of credit, he really battled me. I made
some tough pitches and finally hung one to him, and he didn't miss
it.''

And by the end of the evening - thanks to solid efforts from Cone, the
bullpen and the Sox offense - McGriff's bomb didn't matter.

Glad you enjoyed the commercial. I keep watching it over and over!

It does take a long time to load, even with a cable connection. I use
Download Accelerator to speed downloads up. You can get it for free
here:

http://www.downloadaccelerator.com/

It also let me save the file.

That site has another great commercial that's not really a Coney
commercial (although the cabbie has a photo of David in his cab), but
it's really funny. It's the one where the Braves fan hails a cab and
starts yakking about how the Yanks suck to the driver who is a Yankee
fan. I won't tell you the ending if you've never seen it. I can't post
the URL because the website is down and I don't have it bookmarked,
but you can use the same link for David's commercial:

http://www.adcritic.com/content/adidas-the-el-duque.html

and look for the Adidas commercial that's called NY Cabbie Fan.

Laura, yes Tino is with us for the rest of the season now. Even though
he waived his no-trade clause when the Yankees picked up his option
the ten-and-five rule prevents them from trading him now without his
consent. Let's hope Donnie Baseball can get some magic back in his
bat. He had two hits last night which looked promising!

Good morning all.. TGIF!

Ok.. after watching that commercial like a million times (lol) KC and I were
chatting.. is the woman who David talks to in the commercial his wife Lynn?

Just was curious if it was and if anyone knew!

Well the game was rained out last night.. and Boston came from behind to
win.... remember those days... sigh!

I am still hopeful our team will out shine in the long run!

Have a great weekend!

Subject: The latest Cone fantasy report...

As do probably a bunch of you on this list, I have a fantasy league on
yahoo.com, and naturally David is on my roster. Until recently, the scouting
report on him has been quite mediocre, but I thought I should share this
latest one with you guys; I think people are finally starting to notice.:)

"Fantasy Spin: Well folks, this makes three good outings in a row (1.145 WHIP
and a 3/2 strikes-to-balls ratio since June 8). There's no guarantee he'll
keep this up, but in 14 previous seasons this guy has had exactly one bad
season, and we all know that came last year when his ERA ballooned to 6.91.
In fact, take out 2000 and since 1987, his worst season ERA-wise was 1998
when he compiled a 3.55 -- and a 20-7 record with 209 strikeouts in 207.2
innings. If you have room for him on your bench, he's worth a flyer. (Dave
Darling/TSN) "

Interesting numbers... I'm pulling for him to keep up the good work (though
at the same time hoping we pass Bahston before he makes his next start, if
that's possible!).

Cheers,

~PEN~

Subject: Important News--Listbot Service to Shut Down

http://www.geocities.com/coney36_nyy/

Hi everyone...I am writing you all to inform you that listbot, the service
that runs this mailing list, is shutting down its service effective August
6th. I had thought about going through another mailing list service, and
I have also pondered turning "Coney's Court" into a forum to link to the
site. Now being that this is a "democratic monarchy," (hee hee) I would
really like to hear each and every member's input on this! So let's have
a vote...shall we continue with the mailing list format or move on to a
forum? The choice that receives the most votes I will do my best to
follow through with and create... :)

Also don't forget...David pitches tonight against the Devil Rays at
Fenway! The game is on through MLB Extra Innings and will be replayed on
NESN later in the evening!!

Take care, and "Go, David, Go!!" :) :) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
