What a game last night. I think Coney is making it very difficult for Joe to leave him out of the post-season rotation. We all know David's numbers in October. BTW, last night's game was only 14 minutes short of being the longest nine inning game in the history of major league baseball! I'm always behind in my reading, and I just picked up the 8/21-8/28 issue of The New Yorker to read Tales of the Bronx by Roger Angell (who is possibly going to do a bio of David). It's a long piece about the team with a lot about Coney. If anyone's missed it, I'll be glad to send a xerox. #26 in 2000! -- susan peters ~ [email protected] |

Welcome aboard, Susan! I know what you all mean about the West Coast games - I actually woke up just in time to see Nelson blow the game for Andy the other night! : ( I dozed off a little last night too, I was *so* glad to find out that Coney got the win, it was 4-0 when I fell asleep, and when I woke up and found out it ended 5- 4, I got nervous! But all's well that ends well! :) Good game and good performance by our man Cone! Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend, everyone! Ally :) |

If you get MSG, make sure you catch this week's edition of Yankee Magazine. They have a feature on Coney's charity softball game, and the auction at Mickey Mantle's. #26 in 2000! -- susan peters ~ [email protected] |

Sorry, guys -- I just tuned in to the web cast Yankees game, and Cone is already gone? I see that he threw 62 pitches in 2 and 2/3 innings, but is that so devastating? I'm sure I will find out what happened, but the sooner the better!! Thanks!! YankeeCindy |

YankeeCindy, Cone was just trying to make a play and the dove to make the catch and landed right one his left arm. :( He was like lying there forever and was in so much pain, you could see it in his face. When they brought him off the field his arm was just liek hanging there. I think its probably either dislocated or broken :( :( It is so terrible!! The only good part is that its not his pitching arm or else i think his career might be over :( I will try to update you more once they say what is wrong with it. Poor Coney!! :( Christina |

OK, they just said that it is dislocated for sure! I guess that is not too bad, but i dont think he will able to pitch for a whiel and maybe not for the rest of the season! :( I just hope he gets better soon! Christina |

They say it's a dislocated shoulder and they popped it back in. I hope it's JUST a dislocated shoulder and there aren't any broken bones. I hope he gets well soon.. Me worried.. -kris |

Totally, it's so horrible to see all that hard work he's done to regain his stuff this season, and that one ball can ruin the rest of htis season for him! :( I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I know. :( I'm going to wear my Yanks stuff on the first day of school, even though I planned to wear new clothes.. but I gotta show some compassion! :( We should all send our "get wells" and stuff to the stadium or something. -kris <~ VERY worried.. *sniffz* |

Oh, sure... The first game I tune into since I started school a week ago, and when I heard about the injury on the radio, and Sterling and Kay describing every gory horrifying detail, I thought I was going to be sick to my stomach... Hasn't poor David had enough trouble this season not to be plagued by an injury? I guess the curse of the starting rotation finally hit him, now that he's actually gotten his act together. Isn't it strange how the entire starting rotation from the beginning of the year has been on the DL this season? (And does that mean that Neagle's next?) One of the first things I thought of was "which arm was it?", and then "is this how it all ends?" Not Coney's career... he'll still be pitching next season, but has he started his last game as a Yankee? This whole season has almost been for him like "pitch like there's no tomorrow", that every day he's in pinstripes should be cherished because there won't be all that many more. Seems like the writers had similar ideas, according to the broadcasts. I did hear some SLIGHTLY reassuring news on the postgame, though... that it looks like though he suffered a dislocation, that's about all that was wrong with him... that he didn't tear anything, and he was feeling better after the doc popped it back into place. He was even joking with the reporters, according to Sterling, "come Sunday, I'm there if you need me." So hopefully maybe that means he'll miss just one start. You know what the WORST part of this all is? If it had happened two innings later he would've at least improved his record to 5-11; his luck, though, he got yet ANOTHER no-decision. Feel better, Coney, we miss ya... ~PEN~ |

I thought almost the same thing...we were finally getting Cone some run support! It was very scary and depressing to see, especially when they were interviewing George Brett and talking about Cone's injury, and Brett asked "he's 37, isn't he", and you could just tell that he was thinking "is the end for him?", but Trautwig & Singleton changed the subject real fast! I just hope he gets better soon! Well, we are all thinking of and praying for (those of us who pray) him and a speedy recovery!bb Take care, Ally :) |

Coney was on the Kay corner tonight on the pregame show and he said that he was feeling very good and that he told Joe Torre that he could go on Sunday if he needed him, and Torre has decided to skip over Coney for one start.......this is very good news, I'm sure I am not the only one that thought he would be out for a long time after seeing him go down like that. I'm very happy that he will be able to put up a fight for a playoff spot! GO CONEY GO!!! -EyDe JeTeR |

David was shown on MSG's pre-game show. He was working out with the team before the game today! They showed him doing some exercises, rotating his arms a little, and he had his tongue sticking out from the pain but he kept on going. He was throwing lightly to Mel. His left arm looked a bit stiff, but he had his glove on and was moving it around. Kay said he floored Mel and Joe. Plans were for him to pitch from a chair on Monday! They never expected to see him out there so soon, if at all. It shows you the heart Coney has. #26 in 2000! -- susan peters ~ [email protected] |

Before the game tonight, they showed Coney throwing in the bullpen. Torre and Connors were looking on. Coney had a good session and he's going to pitch on Friday. What an amazing recovery! #26 in 2000! -- susan peters ~ [email protected] |

Hey everyone...Well, I have to say I was fairly proud of Cone tonight...I
thought he pitched pretty well, especially after coming off of that
injury. He seemed to struggle a bit at first, but then he started to
throw those strikes he loves so much. ;) I just wish he could have had
another win out of it all...yes, he made a few mistakes, but there was no
run support either, so that was pretty disappointing...But I think he's
doing well...though I know there is some question of whether he will be on
the post season roster, what do all of you think?
The front page has been updated...
Take care~ ~ ~ ~

I was actually surprised he started tonight. It looked so much worse when it occured. He's doing well considering.. About the post season roster.. I don't know.. He's got alotta stuff, but the question that'll run through Torre's head is if he is SURE he can do it. Doesn't Cone usually do really well under pressure? If that's the case, if I were Torre, i'd put him in. -kris |
