Guglielmo
Marconi was an inventor who was born in Italy in 1847. He was attending
the Livorno Technical Institute when he read an article about the use of
radio in wireless communication. This was in 1894 and the most common way
to communicate was by telegraph. Marconi began experimenting and by 1895
he had sent and received signals beyond the range of vision. As time went
on he even sent signals over hills and
to a range up to
two miles.(6)
Marconi became obsessed
with the idea of sending messages across the Atlantic. He built a transmitter
that was 100 times more powerful than any other station in Polduh, England.
Then in December 1902, he received the first transatlantic signals.(2)
