FAQ About Betta Breeding E-Mail Me!
Q:  How many eggs can a female lay?
A:  Well this is a short and easy to answer question.  A female betta can hold many many eggs.  A plump female usually has more but like I said earlier they all have eggs.  A female betta can lay anywhere from 50 to 300 eggs.  But usually it is between 100 to 200.  Though not all these eggs may be fertile and some of the babies will die, most likely.  But still that is a lot of babies.  They lay this many because in the wild not many would make it, it's hard to survive.  But under captive conditions breeders sometimes get up to 200 babies that all make it.  So be sure to have space and time for all of those little guys.

Q:  What equiptment is necessary for breeding?

A:  Thank-you for submitting the question and here is your answer.  This is pretty simple question to answer but I'm going to go into a little more detail so as to clear stuff up.  Okay here's a list and a little discription on each one if needed:
-
10 gallon tank-  Just the regular plain old glass tank nothing special about the tank needed.
-
Heater-  50 watt for your ten gallon tank and lay length ways below the water because it is so shallow for it to be right-side up.
-
Plants-  Either plastic or alive.  Alive will provide first food for babies so this may be a better choice but plastic lasts for longer.
-
1/2 a styrofoam cup-  set the cup up like you were going to drink from it then cut it from top to bottom in the middle.  Then it should be set on mthe water so it forms sort of a cave, got the idea?
-
Corner Filter and equipment- to keep tank clean
-
Top-  Either a tank cover or sealed cellophane something that will keep the moisture in, helps fish in developmental stage.
-
Baby Food cultures-  Either Microworms, Baby Brineshrimp, or vingear eels
-Medicine-  To treat wounds, use something like Bettamax.
-
Two Bettas-  One male and one female (duh!).
And I think I covered everything if not I will add it later but I think that about sums it up.
