| Q: How do I know if my female betta has eggs? A: All female bettas have eggs when they are mature. People usually say that they have to be fat around the middle only means they have tons of eggs. A mature female betta will have eggs even if she doesn't look that plump. Also it takes about two weeks after you spawn her for her to be ready to spawn again. Also to tell if she is ready look for a small white bump protruding from her belly. This is where the egss come out of and means she is ready. Q: How can I make my male build a bubblenest? A: Well there are a number of ways to go about this. All ways work well but every betta is different. My first way I would try is to take a spoon and go to another tank where a male has built a bubblnest and scoop it out carefully. Then gently place it under where you want to have your male build the nest. He then should, but not always, adopt it as his own and continue the work. If this fails do not worry there are other ways. Another way that might work is place another male in a jar next to him, so they can see each other. This will make the males compete for the female and hence try to make the best nest. After he has started his nest you can take away the other male so he thinks he won. He should then continue the nest and maintain it. Another way is to raise the water temp up (but not past 80F). And cool it down at night. This is for nautral water cycles like in the wild. Also to make the water feel more like home add some black water extract or other chemicals that make the water more like home. Try these and see if you have any luck, you should. But if all fails just let him sit sometimes it takes them longer to build the nest but they will. |
