| The ESLR Process In the summer of 2002, the Division of Adult Education Schoolwide/Divisionwide Leadership Team met to review a variety of Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLR) statements that had been collected from the district website, other adult education programs, and other sample sources. The team discussed the listed ESLR statements and suggested additional ones. Before the next meeting, the ESLR samples were edited for redundancies and categorized. At the second meeting, the Schoolwide Leadership Team discussed and prioritized the statements. The team also developed a plan for community, student, and staff input. During that same summer, the WASC Self-Study Coordinator held two WASC inservices at each of the four adult schools, one in the morning and one in the evening. Teachers, classified staff, and administrators participated. The inservice consisted of an overview of the WASC process as well as an ESLR activity in which staff discussed, suggested additional statements, and prioritized potential ESLRs. Because not all teaching staff was on duty during the Summer School Session, an additional WASC ESLR activity was provided during the Home Group/department meetings at the Pre-School meeting in September 2002. The community also had an opportunity to provide input to the Division's ESLRs. This took place at the district's annual Education Summit in August 2002. Each year the district Superintendent convenes an Education Summit for the purpose of reporting progress to parents and community partners as well as to receive input from community members and parents. The Division of Adult Education has always taken an active role in the summit and in August 2002, and was able to gather community input regarding the ESLR statements from adult education students and other community members. After the additional input from the Education Summit and the Pre-School meeting was added and reviewed, a memo with the draft ESLRs went out to all teachers. Teachers were asked to review the draft document and share it with their students. In addition, teachers were asked to record student input on a brief questionnaire. After input from students, teachers, community members, and staff was compiled, the WASC Self-Study Coordinator consulted with the Sweetwater Union High School District WASC Coordinator to ensure alignment with the district's Expected Districtwide Learning Results (EDLRs). At the WASC Non-Student Work Day in February 2003, Home Groups reviewed the draft ESLRs for the last time. After those meetings various business education teachers were contacted to encourage their students to participate in a contest to design the Division's WASC ESLR poster. Home Group Chairs chose the winning entry, a poster designed by Rosalva Guido, a student of Maria Martinez at San Ysidro Adult School. At the WASC Professional Development Day in May 2003, the winning design was previewed. Certificated and Classified staffs received their copies of ESLR posters at Home Group meetings in the fall of2003. Ms.Guido received a gift certificate to a local restaurant and the recognition of Division staff at the fall meeting. To reinforce the District's commitment to the ESLRs, they are promenently posted in every classroom. In addition, they are posted on the Division website and published in the brochure. |
