Why
Clean A Computer
We all clean our offices,
bathrooms, houses, furniture, etc., to get rid of all that Dust
& Dirt "D&D" and to reduce colds and allergies. However,
not many people clean their computers or properly maintain them.
Not only should the computer hardware be cleaned, but the software should
be properly maintained, organized, and free from viruses.
Hardware
As everybody knows D&D
accumulates on everything, therefore requiring cleaning. D&D
is potentially fatal to a computer, which is a vital entity to a business.
With proper cleaning of the computer, keyboard, mouse, monitor, and peripherals
the computer will maintain proper operation and it will last longer. Dust
accumulates in all parts of the computer, i.e. CPU fan, power supply, disk
drives, motherboard, etc. This buildup of dust may cause overheating
and malfunctions to the PCs vital components. Typing can be very frustrating
when the keyboard is not working properly. In most cases the cause for
keyboard problems are the keys sticking due to beverage spills. Paper clips,
staples, and other foreign objects may also cause keys from not working,
therefore, proper cleaning will reduce frustration.
From a hygienic perspective,
a properly cleaned computer and its peripherals will reduce the spread
of
germs.
Software
Since most of us surf the
internet, exchange floppy disks, work on a networked environment, and send
and receive email, we are
all vulnerable to computer viruses. Computer viruses are bits of
code that are
potentially fatal to data
residing on the hard drive. Viruses can completely erase all data
on the hard drive. Therefore, it is necessary to scan the hard drive for
viruses frequently. While you work on your computer files, they become
fragmented, meaning data is split into pieces and placed on different parts
of the hard drive. The more fragmented the hard drive, the less efficient
your computer is. Defragging the hard drive consolidates files, frees up
space, and speeds up the computer. |
