Complete Coverage Campaign

The CCC began in March 2005 to call the mainstream / corporate media to report comprehensively on Iraq. We initiated the campaign by approaching a single news outlet, National Public Radio in Washington D.C. (NPR), with our concerns. We knew that NPR reported very frequently on the violence and politics of Iraq, but offered comparatively very little on the humanitarian crisis experienced daily by Iraqi civilians. The day-to-day lack of basic necessities such as clean water, electricity, medical care and the like was woefully underreported. Hence NPRs coverage of Iraq was not comprehensive.

The goal of the CCC is non-political and completely humanitarian. We believe that all people whether they support the U.S./Coalition presence in Iraq or are against it can come together behind this effort to learn the complete truth about the humanitarian crisis ongoing in Iraq.

Save The Civilians

STC began in April 2006. We realized that calling for increased humanitarian reporting on civilian suffering (the purpose of the Complete Coverage Campaign) was similar to calling for an ambulance after the car had plummeted off the cliff: We were trying to get the story of the crash reported, rather than seeking to prevent the crash from occurring in the first place. For civilians in or near zones of armed conflict, the world is a cliff without a guard rail, and we recognized that being true civilian advocates must also include efforts to make a world where civilians are safe from harm.

90% of the victims of modern armed conflict are civilians.

STC is an effort to change public opinion and international law to no longer accept the unintentional but foreseen harm caused to civilians (collateral damage) in zones of armed conflict.
