Physician Issac Trooper

Player: Nick "Denzil" Long
Died: The Gathering Of Nations 1102 - Killed by members of Clan McBeth

Bastard son of Sergeant Thomas Bawker and the company whore Annabella. Isaac grew up in The Company and journeyed with them, doing many odd jobs until he was finally taken on as apprentice to Jeremiah Tongue, the companies elderly physician. Sergeant Bawker died before Isaac was born whilst training in Albion, and Isaac's mother died on his eighteenth birthday of a pox in Italia. Devouted to the company they are his family and he is a little uneasy around other people.

Jerimiah recently passed away following a long illness and has left the partially trained Isaac as the mainstay of health and healing within the company ranks. Whilst Isaac is fairly confident of his own skills, some of the company are not. This is based on Isaac's early work at sewing people back up that the company endured in Italia. Isaac's biggest personal failure is his inability to save his mentor Jeremiah from the flux and sickness that finally ended his life.

Calm enough in battle he tried to do his part for The Company and his fellows. He had a great pride in the regiment, their achievements and their skills, even if half of them were no good scoundrels. During the massacre of the Clan McBeth at The Gathering Of Nations in 1102 Trooper was believed to have been taken through a ritual circle and slain on Caledonian soil. Neither his body nor his tabard and dagger were ever recovered.

  • "Save the life, lose the limb"
  • "You're a soldier; its your job to get hurt and mine to put you back together … so stop screaming like a baby"
  • "Now I'm sure I have an ointment somewhere that'll deal with that, but until then it'll have to be maggots"
Private Rufus Tanner

Player: "Little" Dave Garrick
Died: Maestro's Masque 1102 - Killed by Safron Dagger assassins

Born south of Winchester, in the village of Milton; 3rd son of the local tanner. Rufus hated the tannery and all types of hard work, and would do what he could to escape it. Rufus was in for a big shock, his father died from congestion caught one winter Rufus' older brother Joseph would not put up with his loafing and so kicked him out. Rufus couldn't get any work in the village as everyone knew him for a lay-about and so he resorted to poaching to feed himself. Eventually the local Sheriff's men caught him and a magistrate offered to take his hand or let him sign up to the life of a soldier. Not keen on the idea of life as a cripple Rufus Tanner joined The Company.

Promoted to Corporal in 1102, Tanner died later that year whilst The Company was in the service of Donna Lucianna in Scicilijia. Whilst guarding the main gate to the Deodati compound Tanner was fatally wounded from behind by a Safron Dagger assassin masquerading as one of Don Deodati's household staff. He was dead by the time anyone reached his body. By the will of Ksarul Tanner's spirit was returned to the physical realm one last time to aid his comrades against the demon horde which beseiged the compound the following day.

  • General Audeley: "Tanner you are without doubt the laziest man in this army"
  • "I wasn't sleeping as sentry sir; I was resting my eyes"
Valerin Of Blackwood

Player: Neil Webber
Died: Maestro's Masque 1102 - Killed by Safron Dagger assassins

Not actually a member of The Company but one of the regiment's staunchest allies. Valerin was invited to take the Company oath a number of times, but had always declined having sworn to his late father that he would remain a Ranger of Blackwood until he died. An extremely talented archer and a good friend, Valerin and Tanner died within minutes of each other; victims of the same Safron Dagger attack whilst escorting Donna Lucianna in Scicilija.
Private Cobbler Stubtoe

Player: Stefan Lancaster
Died: The Queens Beard 1103 - Killed by a poisoned blade during the final honour battle

Stubtoe never gave us a full biography so his past is somewhat unclear. He would have had us believe however that he was a wealthy - if eccentric - gentleman who found the activities of commoners to be somewhat entertaining. Having failed in his attempts to become a poacher he apparently thought military service might prove a more practical diversion. Whatever the truth Stubtoe was clearly not right (for one thing, he wore a woolen skirt rather than trews) - he was however as dedicated to his regiment and cause as any other, and his offbeat humour raised morale at many an akward moment.
