The International Festival in Boston, M.A. October 25th 2000. A place where thousands of middle school students throughout New England, had the opportunity to experience a bit of the multitude of cultures around the world through music, art, and food. Our team, along with Killingly Intermediate School's sixth grade team, were given the opportunity to attend with the help of the
Literacy, Technology, and Multicultural Learning Project. This project is funded by a grant through the CT Department of Education. Its goals are to create academically rich and culturally supportive learning so that students can develop skills for living, learning, working, and leading in the world of the 21st century.
The 5th and 6th grade teams at Windham Middle School are involved in this project to help foster the same ideals that this project hopes to accomplish. We have recently attended a student created Cultural exchange (Feb. 2nd 2001). This exchange, which was held at EASTCONN, included informational booths which showcased different countries and their cultures. Each of these booths were created by students using their own research and personal experiences. Students had the opportunity to give the attendants a glimpse of what their history and culture was like. Some of these cultures included; Laos, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Jamaica, and others. To view some of these booths and all they had to offer, click on the MLTML Project link at the top of the page. Continue to visit us for further updates on this and other projects that we are participating in.
