San Francisco Community Resources Welcome! This web site was developed by Marianne Pilgrim, an occupational therapy student at Dominican University of California in San Rafael. The purpose of this site is to provide community resource information and links available to the mental health community in San Francisco. "Occupational therapy is the art and science of helping people do the day to day activities that are important to them despite impairment, disability or handicap" (Neistadt & Crepeau, Willard & Spackman's Occupational Therapy, p.5, 1998). "Occupation" in this sense refers to the activities that occupy the individual's time and give meaning to his/her life.
One focus of occupational therapy is to educate individuals about the importance of balancing their lives in all three areas of self-care, productivity and recreation. Information about community resources in San Francisco will be divided into these three areas to assist mental health clients improve their quality of life and hopefully prevent rehospitalization.
