Free MOST DAYS of every month:
- San Francisco Cable Car Museum: 1201 Mason St. 474 - 1887. Open Daily 10 am to 6 pm summers, closes at 5pm in the winter.
- San Francisco Fire Department Museum: 665 Presidio Ave. Open Thu - Sat, 1 pm to 4 pm.
- National Maritime Museum: Beach St. at the end of Polk. Open daily 10 am to 5 pm.
- North Beach Museum: 1435 Stockton St. (in Eureka Bank). Open Mon - Fri, 9 am to 4 pm.
- Wells Fargo Museum: 420 Montgomery St. Open Mon - Fri, 9 am to 5 pm.
- Mission Dolores: 16th and Dolores Sts. Daily 9 am to 4 pm. Free but $2 donation expected.
- Strybing Arboretum and Botanical Gardens: 9th Ave @ Lincoln Wy, Golden Gate Park. Open Mon - Fri, 8 am to 4:30 pm; Sat - Sun and holidays, 10 am to 5 pm.
- Fort Point National Historic Site: Located below Golden Gate Bridge. Open Wed - Sun, 10am - 5pm. History of the old Army fort and building of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Free on the FIRST TUESDAY of every month:
- The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: 151 Third St. 357 - 4000. Open 10 am to 6 pm. Also, 1/2 price on Thursdays from 6pm - 9pm.
Free on the FIRST WEDNESDAY of every month:
- M. H. de Young Memorial Museum: 75 Tea Garden Drive, Golden Gate Park. 863 - 3330. Open 9:30 am to 8:45 pm.
- Asian Art Museum: Near 10th Ave, @ Fulton, Golden Gate Park. 379 - 8801. Open 9:30 am to 8:45 pm.
- The California Academy of Sciences: Golden Gate Park. 750 - 0332. Includes Steinhart Aquarium, Natural History Museum and Morrison Planetarium. Open 9 am to 5 pm.
- Mexican Museum, African-American Museum, and Museo Italo Americano: All located at Fort Mason Center, Marina @ Laguna. Open 12 pm to 7 pm.
- Museum of Craft and Folk Art: Located at Fort Mason Center. Open 11am - 7 pm. Also free Saturdays 10 am to Noon.
- The Exploratorium: 3601 Lyon @ Bay. 565 - 7337. Open 10 am to 9 pm.
- The San Francisco Zoo: Sloat @ 45th Ave. 753 - 7080. Open 10 am to 5 pm.
Free on the FIRST THURSDAY of every month:
- Center for the Arts at Yerba Buena Gardens: 701 Mission @ 3rd St. 978 - 2787. Galleries are free to all from 5 pm to 8 pm.
- The Cartoon Art Museum: 814 Mission @ 4th St. 227 - 8666. Open 11 am to 5 pm. Every first Thursday is "Pay-as-You-Wish" Day.
