Polar Bear Express Polar Bear Express
There's no other rail excursion in the world quite like the Polar Bear Express. Operating from the end of June until Labour Day each year. It is a 186 mile ride from the town of Cochrane and the boreal forest down to the James Bay Lowlands and the edge of the Artic. On the return trip you can enjoy the "Piano Bar".The Polar Bear travels daily except Fridays, departing from Cochrane at 8:30 a.m., returning at 10:30 p.m.
What you will see and experience is the reality of everday life at the edge of a unique frontier. A remote location with fascinating history from the earliest days of the Hudson's Bay Company, the fur trade and the traditions of the Cree people who have live in the regin since time immemorial.

Museums
Cochrane Railway & Pioneer Museum, located at the train station. The purpose of this museum is to preserve a three-dimensional picture of the pioneer railway and homsteading days - a tribute to the men and women who within the present century opened Northern Ontario, in itself an empire bigger than the terriotories of many of the United Nations.
Hunta Museum, located in Hunta Township. Experience what life was like over fifty years ago! Enjoy this fantasy trip as your mind wanders back into time when viewing their many displays.

Coureur De Bois Adventures ( Canoe & Kayak Rentals)
Commando Lake tour and other spectacular nature tours by Voyageur Canoe. See Cochrane from beautiful Lake Commando situated in the center of our town. A casual paddle in 34 foot Voyageur Canoe will give you a change to view the areea from the water. Visit or sleep a night or two in a traditional native Teepee in Drury Park which is in whitin walkign distance of the Train Station.

Lake Commando
The lake lies in the center of the town and provides a beautiful public beach for swimming, canoeing and kayaking. It also features walking/fitness trails and a beautiful bandstand, where, on special occasions, live music can be heard. If all you want to do is spend the afternoon on the sandy beach of Lake Commando with a picnic lunch this offers you the perfect opportunity for such a relaxing experience. Tiffniks Polar Putt centrally located at 194 3rd (Miniature Golf) Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Weekends from noon till 10 p.m. Adults $3.50 ca.
