A TRICK OF THE NIGHT
A huge favourite among the fans, and one of the 'Nanas more ballad-y type singles. The album and the single versios of the song differ musically, but the lyrics are the same for both. This single also had the priviledge of having two videos made for it. The lesser known video [shot mostly in black and white] was made for the benefit of a BBC TV show called 'In at the Deep End'. For a particular episode, presenter Paul Heiney had to master the skill of directing a music video. Sadly, the girls were not at all happy with the final result, and Sara claimed "I don't want people to think this is our idea of a good video".
LYRICS When the day is over and the work is done Well, its a different story as the darkness comes around I tried to let you know, youre going the wrong way And the streets you thought would all be paved with gold But when the wind cuts through youd even try to sell your soul Everywhere you go, its the long way Now youre no longer just the boy next door When they were falling in love with that clean cut smile Change of style, just for a little while Whatcha doing, hey whatcha doing Walking through danger, can't see the wrong or the right Whatcha doing, tell me whatcha doing, can't be a stranger Must be a trick of the night Well its a laugh a minute and you can't decide Between the burning question and the fortune in his eyes You never let it show or take it the wrong way Sometimes you wonder what you came here for Oh, they could tear you apart with those bare faced lies Can't disguise all the hurt you're feeling inside Whatcha doing, hey whatcha doing Walking through danger, can't see the wrong or the right Whatcha doing, tell me whatcha doing, can't be a stranger Must be a trick of the night Whatcha doing, hey whatcha doing Walking through danger, can't see the wrong or the right Whatcha doing, tell me whatcha doing, can't be a stranger Must be a trick of the night Of the night, of the night, must be a trick of the night, a trick of the night When the day is over and the work is done Well, its a different story as the darkness comes around And the streets you thought would all be paved with gold (Yes, its a trick of the night) But when the wind cuts through youd even try to sell your soul (Must be a trick of the night) When the day is over and the work is done Well, its a different story as the darkness comes around (Cant see the wrong or the right) And the streets you thought would all be paved with gold (Yes, its a trick of the night) (Whatcha doing, hey whatcha doing, cant be a stranger, must be a trick of the night) But when the wind cuts through youd even try to sell your soul When the day is over and the work is done Well, its a different story as the darkness comes around (Cant see the wrong or the right) And the streets you thought would all be paved with gold (Yes, its a trick of the night) (Whatcha doing, hey whatcha doing, cant be a stranger, must be a trick of the night) But when the wind cuts through youd even try to sell your soul When the day is over and the work is done Well, its a different story as the darkness comes around (Cant see the wrong or the right) And the streets you thought would all be paved with gold (Yes, its a trick of the night) (Whatcha doing, hey whatcha doing, cant be a stranger, must be a trick of the night) But when the wind cuts through youd even try to sell your soul

THE VIDEO Aside from the lesser know 'In at the Deep End' video, another video was made for the singles' release in America. It featured a montage of the girls in hotel rooms singing along to the song. It was quite a moody and tame video compared to their other music videos.
