Columbus Light Horse
Australian Rules Football
founded: January 2004
The Columbus Light Horse (CLH) is a brand new sports club in the Columbus, Ohio.  The Light Horse was founded in January of 2004 as a potential Australian Rules Football team.  CLH is currently in the formative stages and is actively recruiting new members.  We are looking for people who are interested in making a moderate commitment to learning and playing this great game.

Australian Rules Football (aka Footie or Aussie Rules) is a fast paced and exiciting sport that involves teamwork, individual skill, cardiovascular fitness, and physical contact.  It is easy to pick up and difficult to master.
No prior experience is necessary and anyone over the age of 18 who is in good shape is welcome to join.  The CLH hopes to play a few matches in the spring and summer against teams in neighboring cities.

You can follow the links on this site to access more information about Australian Rules Football, Australia, Columbus (Ohio), or even the club's namesake.  If you have any interest in playing with the Light Horse please contact the club.  You may either sign the guestbook on this page or you may send an e-mail to [email protected].  Thanks for checking us out!

March 31, 2006 -
Here is a great video link for those who want an introduction to Aussie Rules.  Thanks to

US Footy for producing this video. (the file is large so the load time might be long)

April 29, 2006 - The city of Columbus reached a milestone today as Sam Pope, Jared Svetek, Scott
Matheson, Wes McCorkle, and myself all met at Lou Berliner Park for our first footy
practice. It was an accident that the practice was scheduled for the same day as the Ohio
Rugby Classic.  I apologize for that scheduling mistake.  Next Saturday we need to send
as many people as possible down to Cincy for a match with the Dockers and Wallabies.
Thanks to those of you who showed up for practice this morning.

May 28, 2006 - There was a big softball tournament today and we ran into that conflict with park usage
again.  We found plenty of space but it still could be scaring people away from the front of
the park.  Sam, Wes and myself were able to get a good kick in.  Sam was generous
enough to bring up a footy for the club and a set of goal posts.  Thanks Sam!

June 16, 2006 - It looks like Wolfe Park will be are new place to kick around a bit.  After a few mornings
we will evaluate how the park fits our needs and go from there.
