Before Columbiana became an independent island in 1932, it was a British colony for 238 years. This diverse and rich heritage has created wonderfully different areas of the island. The British sector covers most of the eastern shore and is home to several local hotels and restaurants. Columbiana was home to Fort Henry VIII were the British defended the island from Pirates. Most of the fort has been lost in time and the ruins are astounding! |

Even though the British are long gone, you can still see their influence in modern architechture on the island. Many of the original buildings still remain as well. The first British private home (above) was built in 1696. |

There are other cultures that have left their mark on Columbiana. The indigenous island people have left even older ruins to explore. The Temple of Baracka Obamala nestled in the jungle near Columbiana City dates back to the 13th century. |
