Synthesis Essay continued...

Most people, even the government have a tendency to not want to believe that some industries are illegally dumping their waste products into the oceans, rivers, seas, and other sources of water. This cause is detrimental too not only those that live in the area, but to everyone and everything that takes its water from one of those sources. Because of the want to not believe in things such as this that sound so horrible, people and animals suffer greatly from the affects of the toxic material on the ecosystem. We cover up our blunders and mistakes, trying to hide the truth from ourselves so that we will not have to face it. This is why we do not see this problem until it takes an extremely harmful affect on the environment. In order to help solve our problem we have to see what causes and has caused it. From that we can determine what to do to fix the problem, and what not to do so, that we can keep it from happening again.
Its not just the industry that is to blame here. The main and most important cause of marine pollution is humanity itself. The ever growing populations, the not caring about the environment, the dumping of trash and other materials, thinking the Earth will just decompose them and they will be gone, is the source that has the biggest influence and the biggest affect. Pollution has very detrimental effects on the Earth, marine life, as well as on us. The effect that it has on the Earth is the destruction of ecosystems and the creatures that live in them. It starts out with the food and water supply being contaminated. The creatures of the ecosystem do not know that their life source has been damaged so they go on about their normal lives. The harmful chemicals and such then make their way into the animals themselves. From this point many things can happen such as miscarriages, abnormal developments, as well as just plain old dying off. Of course, like dominos, one thing leads to another. What happens next is that people then have a loss of natural resources, possible food sources, as well as water sources. From this point on out drastic things can happen. However, I will leave those things to your imagination.
Similar things happen to marine environments and life just as they do up on land. Trash, oil, chemicals, anything that can be dumped into the ocean can usually be found in it. Animals swallow these harmful things and end up very similar to the effects that are seen on land. However, the largest and most numerous effect is exactly the same as the largest source of marine pollution. Thats right, it is people, you and I. We cause the problem and we are affected by it. We lose food sources, natural resources, people become sick, and if it continues, more detrimental things can, will, and do happen to us. Deformities in unborn children, cancer and death in those considered to young to die, food shortages, and water shortages for crops and for drinking. When you add it all up, the problem of marine pollution is so much greater than one might assume. The affects of it on the environment as well an on us are enormous.
Everyday we encounter our environment and notice things within it and outside of it. There are those who pay a lot of attention to it and those that couldnt care less. From my experience though, a great majority of people today dont really care. Because they do not care about our environment, especially the marine environments, the topic is rarely brought up. The education and revealing of marine pollution is so minuscule that if things keep going as they are currently, we as a species will one day regret our actions. To keep us from regretting past mistakes, we must educate our children and ourselves. Once we know about what it is and what causes it, we can more effectively work to find ways to fix it or even get rid of it all together. However, we must be exposed to it, learn about it, and then follow through by taking action and fixing it. Expose, Educate, and Enact!
