Each person says a descriptive word or short blessing regarding this union and places a symbol of the couple’s choice (usually meaningful curio like polished stones or shells; also observed are strips of parchment with written blessings) in a container during the ceremony and kept as a keepsake.
Unity Candle Ceremony The Unity Candle Ceremony consists of the lighting of one candle from two separate candles held by the couple. The flames from each individual candle joining together to create a single flame symbolize the union of two lives into one. This ceremony usually includes spoken vows.
Mother’s Flower Ceremony An honoring ceremony that can be done either with the couple presenting their mothers with a flower (in gratitude for their lives and upbringings) or the mothers present flowers to their children (the couple) as a symbol of life and as their first gift to them.
