Local amenities
Only 500 yards from the cottage is a magnificent blue-flag beach shown in the picture. It is safe for bathing and even in the height of summer is never crowded. Just a mile away, immediately adjacent to Portsalon Harbour, is the golf club which welcomes visitors and offers a challenging 18-hole links course. At the harbour you will find  a small restaurant providing a range of dishes that are competitively priced and should satisfy even the hungriest of holidaymakers.

The Harbour also has a quaint spirit-grocers (a legacy of rural Ireland left over from many years ago) where customers can still buy sweets and basic provisions at one end of the counter and quench their thirst at the other end!

If you don’t mind travelling there are several hotels and restaurants in the surrounding towns of Rathmullan (from where the "Flight of the Earls" took place in 1607), Kerrykeel, Milford and Ramelton. Sea fishing is possible from the rocks all around the peninsula and at Rathmullan Harbour. During the summer months it is sometimes possible to charter a small boat for fishing in Lough Swilly. Why not explore the area and enjoy the superb views that lie around almost every corner as you drive along the normally quiet country roads.

Knockalla Mountains from the golf course - the golf club welcomes visitors
