THE  GOSPEL (Good News)  ABOUT  JESUS

A VERY SIMPLE RENDERING OF THE GOSPEL

The internet has many sites where the gospel is treated in depth.  They make wonderful study material for the already initiated.  My intention is to make a very simple statement of what the gospel is, so that if you have never thought about it before you can begin to understand what it is.

The gospel of Jesus Christ

Gospel is greek for Good News.

Jesus is a Jewish name meaning "saviour," or "deliverer."

Christ is greek for messiah, a Jewish word meaning "anointed of  God."

So the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the
Good News about One who was sent from God to save people from the results of sinfulness.

That leaves the question of how to get
saved, (see below) and  the question of what is sin and why should I care?

What's this big deal about "sinfulness?"  Well, God created you and I, and He intended us to follow His will ALL the time.  Since we don't and can't do that, we call it sin.  This is like, if we don't obey the rules of a club, we can't belong to the club.  In this case it's not a club but God's family.  We can't belong because we never go long without breaking the rules.  We don't get kicked out, the real fact is we were never "in."  And we want a way in, for many good reasons.  Jesus is the key to that.

One benefit is peace with God, like being His personal friend.  There sure is a lot of trouble and turmoil in this world.  If you have had enough of that, peace with our heavenly Father, (God) is a good place to start something new.

Another benefit is getting to live forever with God and Jesus in           heaven.  Does that sound too simple?  You can read whole books on it if you want to, but it is still that simple.  Know any better ideas?

Worth looking into?  Click on "Salvation" below to learn about God's plan to Save people, you and me for instance.

SALVATION
This detail from Michelangelo's "The Creation" portrays God exerting Himself to bring life to Man, while the man, a type of humankind, makes a half-hearted response.
