Doctor Pepper CGC (1/3 UCD) "Doc"
Another of the famous Kramer "Ditch Dogs," Doc is turning out to be quite the little obedience star. Doc is a Canaan Dog, a breed which is used by the Bedouin for herding, and by the Israeli army for tracking and other scentwork. He found us in July 1998, and left for the Bridge August 2009..

S'more-ca Pork-a Chubby as an Orca DSPP "S'more" (top) and Rocky Road "Monster" (bottom)
Yes, that is one HUGE cat on top! S'more is a Delta Society Pet Partner, which means that he is certified to participate in Animal Assisted Activities and Animal Assisted Therapy. We will be visiting an area elder-care facility. S'more is a Norwegian Forest Cat who came to live with us in November 1996. He was found by a stop sign on an exit ramp. Rocky Road was a feral kitten, probably half Siamese judging from the intact male cats around here. We rescued her from the famous ditch when she was about 5 weeks old (July 1998). I have hopes that one day she will outgrow the name "Monster" and also become a Pet Partner.

S'more and some freaky chick who is strangling him. Not really, but that's what this picture looks like.
A word about the famous Kramer Ditch: We have this magic drainage ditch in front of our house in North Carolina which periodically spontaneously generates incredibly sweet and loving pets. To date, the ditch has given us 3 wonderful dogs and 3 amazing cats. The pets that have not come from the ditch have come from private rescues and the local animal shelter. If you don't have a magic ditch in front of your house, I recommend that you check at your local animal shelter or a rescue organization.

Buddy came to live with us when he was 7 mos old, and earned his CGC a scant 27 days and 14 hours later. Buddy came from Alison Stephens, a Lab breeder in SC. In spite of carefully researched breeding and genetic screening, Buddy had some severe orthopedic problems. After surgery on his 9-mos birthday, Buddy is now gearing up for a career in Retrieving games. He will also be introduced to Obedience, Agility, and Tracking, and he can choose for himself if he wants to play any of those. Buddy earned his Started Hunting Retriever title in May 2004 and his Junior Hunting Retriever title that fall.
Pounce: One of the magical ditch cats, although technically she had already made it to under the corner of the house. Approximately 5 weeks old when we found her, this adorable little kitten grew up to be an adorable large cat. She is a mostly grey tabby with lots of other colors here and there.
Roe: Jim suggested that I teach this half-Siamese kitten how to "talk." I forgot to teach her to shut up! She came from the local shelter where she and the rest of her "accidental litter" had been dumped.
Mustard CGC: Mustard, a beautiful Chinook, was abandoned in the countryside to die. Our wonderful vets at Carrboro Plaza Veterinary Clinic saved him, and after many long happy days luxuriating on the bed and plotting to take over the world, heleft for the Bridge in June 2007.
