HISTORY / CHRONICLES of Cochrane Road Scout
 

The scouting movement in our beloved school, Cochrane Road School (CRS) was established in 1959 by Mr. Arul, our first scoutmaster. We were bestowed the name of �Kumpulan Ke-36 Kuala Lumpur� . Back then, we had only a handful of dedicated scout but from the 1960s onward, our numbers rose dramatically. 

In the space of two years, we had become the second largest scout group in Kuala Lumpur with a total of 73 members. In June, a Fun Fair was held and after that our Annual Campfire followed with joyous ceremony. In August , 6 members attended the first Malaysian �Champoree� in Kem Semangat 

Mr S.Michael was our second Group Scoutmaster after taking over from Mr Arul. It had been very proud and meaningful year when 4 members of our group were granted the acknowledged King�s Scout�s Award 

Between 1963 and 1964, more advancements followed in our group. Our first COH was elected. Patrols were formed and meetings were organized more frequently and systematically during this period. 

In 1965 ,our group underwent another change for better when our first Investiture for Scout Badge was conducted .During April , we demonstrated  scouting activities and gadgets in conjunction with the school exhibition on the 1st September . At year�s end, camping trip were held in various spots including Ulu Langat, Bukit Belacan, Kem Semangat. 

From 1966 to 1969, 70 of our members were present at the First Malaysian Jamboree in Penang. Our group become more proficient in basic scouting skills and knowledge

In the early 70s,our group was swept on a wave of modernization under the wings of Mr. Lui Kwai Keat, our new Scoutmaster. Without any obstacles, he guided us in a dozen many ways, be it in the school confines or camping trips. The Scout Gang Show was held with much grandeur on the 5th-7th November. 

In 1975, Mr Lui incorporated the first of the Rover crew into our group which consisted of the form sixes. Another exhibition on Scouting was held on the Speech Day.

As time went by, this group improved not only in quality but also quality. Our activities were increased considerably. Once again, Mr Lui was with us on a camping trip to Pangkor Island. 

Aware of our strong and undying interest, commitment and inclination towards scouting, our headmaster then, Mr. Seow Bin Hak, awarded us a Cabin which was officially opened on 9th September 1978. 

At the end of 1979, a training camp was held in Port Dickson.

During the Silver Jubilee in 1982, in accordance with a grand exhibition of the school clubs and societies, our group displayed skills and gadgets which was a feat not to be reckoned with. On the same night, one of our best Annual Campfires progressed smoothly. 

In the 80s, this group became more systematic in organizing meeting and scouting competitions. One of many was the Scout Knowledge and Games Competitions which was first held in our school in 1981. We become the first runner-up in KL. 

In 1983, the competition was held again and this time we had managed to become champion in Wilayah in both Boy Scout and Senior Categories. 

In 1985-1990, our name has been change to Kumpulan ke-11 Bukit Bintang. As usual, we emerged the victor the Scout Day celebration at Sri Delima school. A tree collapsed and damaged our precious Cabin but with our strong team spirit, we easily repaired the part until it looked better than before. 

Our scoutmaster was now Mr. Ibrahim who raised our name higher. 

From 1991 until now, the scoutmaster was changed a number of times who currently is Mr. Syarif said. Camping trips, hikes, cycling trips and plenty more trips were made. Our annual trips consist Taman Negara, Hutan Rimba Kenong, Pulau Singa Besar and Gunung Redang.

1991 The teacher advisor is Mr. Chong Eng Seam. He left the Group in November 1993, while on the back from our annual trip in Pulau Singa Besar, he got down the bus somewhere in Seberang Prai. The biggest fire in all the years of cochrane campfire, it was as high as the school block. Annual trip to Kenong Rimba Park .

1992 had the first Rendezvous Night, it is held in the hall, students from our school as well as other school pay a small fee to see the Performance we had for the night, sort of like a gathering, but it is a Fund raising project. Annual trip to Pulau Singa Besar.

1993 organized the second Rendezvous Night. Won the piala pusingan For the March Past Competition on sports day. That was the last time we got first place. Annual trip to Pulau Dayang Bunting, but it was change To Pulau Singa Besar because there isn't a suitable campsite in Pulau Dayang Bunting.

1994 Annual Trip to Gunung Ledang.

1995 Annual Trip to Taman Negara.

1996 Annual Trip to Kenong Rimba Park.

1997 Annual trip to Tasik Kenyir.

1998 the last time a campfire is held in our school.
