This picture was taken when the prison was almost finished and ready for inmates. You can see the four yards. Closest is A Yard, then B, C and D Yards. On A and B yards you can see the asphalt for the basketball courts. They also put in an asphalt track in a D shape all the way around the yard that runs in front of the support services building around the yard, in front of the housing units, back around to the support services buildings. They planted grass and put in a wall with handball courts, one on either side of it, a softball diamond, a vollyball court, bleachers and pic-nic benches. There is enough field there that many of the inmates set up a soccer field and play during their yard time.
Each yard has five housing units on it with a gym that has been turned into a dorm that houses up to 120 prisoners. Each housing unit has 100 cells with up to 200 inmates in each unit. Out of view in the above picture is a Minimum Support Facility. It houses up to 240 level one inmates. There is also a fire station that usually houses seven or eight level one inmates trained as firefighters. All that to say that Centinel State Prison usually has approximately 4,500 inmates at any one time.
