Match Report : 08/12/2001 Coal Exchange 0 v 2 Star & Garter This game was a story of missed opportunities!! We managed to forget last weekends defeat at the hands of this team and started very brightly. We conceeded a goal in the first half, but made lots of chances and then Keith won a penlty...and Jez missed it. The Simon, Geoff, Jez and Mattie continued to play out of their skins at the back to keep S & G out, and Jon made a couple of excellent saves. Andy and Alex created plenty of oppotunities and we were awarded another penalty...this time Keith stepped up...and missed it!! In the second half S & G scored again. Bran and Jimmer kept chasing in midfield, and then Danny was hacked down in the box..stepped up to take the penalty himself...and missed it!!! We played really well. It was a good game...but as the old saying goes "You gotta take your chances"...and as the new saying goes..."If you miss three penalties, you're gonna lose". Next game is Jan 12th. No fixtures yet for 2002.
Match Report : 12/01/2002 Wymering 4 v 0 Coal Exchange Ignore the scoreline, this was an excellent performance from the boys. Last time we played Wymering we lost 9 v 0, and it could have been the same again, but we dug in, played well and were unlucky that it wasn't closer. The Harold Terrace boys were reunited in defence this week and we looked solid until Chalkie gifted Wymering their first goal after a weak backpass. Apart from that the defence (Steve, Chalkie, Scholesy & Alex) were very solid. Stuart had a quick free-kick turned around the post...just. And Bran and Keith also went close. Matt went off with an injury. They scored again, and then they knobbled our keeper, Jon...Wymering don't change...dirty Bas****s. Scholesy went in goal till half time and let another soft goal in. After the break Clive went in goal, and we played very solidly only letting in one more goal. Stuart, Jimmer, Danny and Jim ran tirelessly(ish) in midfield and we were very unlucky not to score a goal or two. Wymering provided some entertainment in the second half....The manager substituted one of the Wymering midfield players, who disagreed with his tactical decision making and demonstrated his annoyance by punching his manager in the gob!!! Maybe David Beckham should try that!! Next week...home to Horsea Dragons.
Latest Match Report : 19/01/2002 Coal Exchange 20 v 3 Horsea Dragons We scored more goals this week than he have in our previous nine league games put together!! Poor old Horsea Dragons were not on form and we mullered them. Jimmer opened he scoring to put Horsea 1 v 0 up!! The sweetest own goal you are ever likely to see. But then the Coal Exchange goal avalance began. Bran got six goals to tie with Keith for the top goal scorer of the season so far. Danny scored a sparkling hat-trick (his first ever goals from open play for the Coalie!). Geoff, Matt and Jimmer got two each, and Jes, Jon (the keeper!), Mark, Lee and Keith each got one. After several tough league games in the last few weeks it was a nice relief to knock a few goals in. We re-arranged the team slightly towards the end to give everyone a chance of glory. Centre-backs Scholesy and Chalkie and the keeper Jon all went up front, and they all scored!
Latest News : The game against Horsea Dragons (played 19th Jan) will not count as a league game. This is because they were suspended when they played us. The game will have to be re-played. So, we have got three games left this season. Two against Horsea and one away to Sharky's. We should pick up six points against Horsea and with a good display against Sharky's we are looking at a solid mid table finish this season.
