NewsFlash : 10/11/2001      Buckland Alexandra 1 v 4 Coal Exchange

Buckland Alexandra had conceeded 34 goals in their last two games, so we thought this game would a walk-over.  However they seem to have found a few new good players (ringers!) since we last put five past them in the first 30 minutes.  Anyway,  we got stuck in and played well in the first 20 minutes.  Keith put us one up with a typical run and shot.  Our Skipper...Scholsey had to go off after twisting his knee (Jez..what do you mean 'Nancy Boy').  Rob came on and played out on the left.  We made hard work of the rest of the game,  but after soaking up plenty of pressure we made another breakthrough when Geoff headed in another pin-point Fellows free-kick.  Jez scored with a penalty after Keith was bundled over in the box and Liam completed our scoring after their keeper mysteriously stayed on his line as the ball rolled towards him!?!  Alex made an excellent debut in a variety of positions!   They got a consolation goal after a penalty was harshly awarded against a pefectly fair challenge from Danny...honest ref!!

Another good three points and we go up to third in the League!!!

We play Buckland again in a couple of weeks time,  but next week it's our old friends Wymering in the Cup.
NewsFlash : 17/11/2001      Wymering 9 v 0 Coal Exchange    (PFA Cup)

Well we got mullered this week.  It was a massacre.  Hammered.  It didn't help that we had several key players on the injured list.  It didn't help that one or two players decided to get in some early Christmas shopping rather than suffer at the hands of Wymering.  It didn't help that we had to drag some players off their death beds to play.  It didn't help that we were playing a very experimental line-up.  It didn't help that we were playing the best team in the league.  It didn't help that we conceeded a goal in the first ten seconds of EACH half (that has to be a record).  It didn't help that they were as violent and nasty as ever and that the ref was terrified to penalise them.  It didn't help they could play football.  And it didn't help that we were pretty hopeless.

Despite all that,  and the fact that it was the first time we have failed to score this season, we did play some good football,  and we never gave up....to be honest it could have been worse.  So heads up for a good win this saturday...
NewsFlash : 24/11/2001      No Game

Not much to report this week.  Buckland failed to get enough players together so the game was called off...muppets!  Next week we are away to TUV in the 3rd Round of the Hants Cup..
Match Report : 01/12/2001    TUV 6 v 2 Coal Exchange   (Hants Cup)

We ventured deep into scummer land for our third round Hants Cup tie against TUV on saturday.  Everything was looking good..everyone found the pitch..the sun was shining..the lady ref warmed our changing room up for us..and we had a very positive team talk..but then the game started!!

As is now customary we let in a goal in the first couple of minutes, but Keith levelled almost immediately.  It was 1 v 1 at half-time.  But after the break we had a funny five minutes and all of a sudden it was 6 v 1.  Keith got one back towards the end.  Oh well...next year. Next week away to Star & Garter
Match Report : 08/12/2001    Star & Garter 5 v 1 Coal Exchange

We played down at HMS Excellent in Portmouth against Star & Garter on Saturday.  After negotiating the machine guns at the gate we had some pretty stiff opposition on the pitch.  The first half was all Coal Exchange,  but amazingly we were down 2 v 1 at half time...with Geoffer notching his fourth of the season.

As we pushed forward in the second half we left Jez a bit exposed at the back and let in a few silly goals.

Next week we play Star & Garter again...this time at Emsworth.
