NewsFlash : 06/10/2001   Coal Exchange 3 v 3 Segensworth

This one was a real 'Game a two arvs'.  We chewed them up and spat em out in the first half. Keith scored the first after about 30 seconds, and his second when he cleverly bounced the ball off the foot of one of their defenders.  Bran got on the score sheet again after some true Scottish grit and determination in the box.  But we went to pieces a bit in the seocnd half and Segensworth scored three to level it.  Then after Scholesy had up-ended one of their strikers in the penalty area, Jon saved a penalty and Jez nipped in to clear the rebound...phew!! There was another team who were lucky to end up with a draw on Saturday!!!  Next week we are home to Copnor Snooker Club in the Len Day Cup.
NewsFlash : 13/10/2001 - Len Day Cup Rnd 2

Coal Exchange 2 v 4 (aet) Copnor Snooker Club
Our first cup game of the season ended in defeat after extra time to Div 1 opponents Copnor SC.  Keith scored yet again to level the score after Copnor had gone ahead,  and Jez (and his lucky boots) did the same after Copnor's second goal.  The defence were fantastic,  but in the end the heat and exhaustive running got to the team and we lost it in extra time to two well taken goals. Next week we are home (again!) to South Park in the league.
NewsFlash : 13/10/2001        Coal Exchange 2 v 0 South Park

Lots of firsts this week.  Our first win in the new red kit.  Our first win of the season at Barton's Green.  Jimmer's first goal.  Our first game without Geoff.  First clean sheet.

It was an excellent team performance.  The defence were solid,  the midfield ran and ran,  and the strikers chased everything.  We attempted to play a new flowing passing game and it worked very well in the first half.  Jimmer netted the first goal from a 'pinpoint' Fellows corner.  South Park dominated the second half until Jez came up with a spectacular 'Le Tissier' like effort from the edge of the area to secure the points.  Great game team.

Next week we are home (yet again!) to Elite Glazing in the PFA Cup.
NewsFlash : 27/10/2001     Coal Exchange 1 v 5 Elite Glazing (Purcell Cup)

We played some of the best football ever played by the Coal Exchange against a very strong outfit from the Premier Division.  It was 2 v 1 to the visitors at half time.  Keith scored a blinder and we could have had a few more if their keeper hadn't been quite so sharp.Towards the end of the second half we pushed forward to try and get the goal back and finally conceeded three sloppy goals.  The final scorline flattered the winners.  Next week we are home (as usual) to Woolsbridge Utd (from Bournemouth in the Hants Cup.
NewsFlash : 03/11/2001      Coal Exchange 4 v 3 Woolsbridge Utd (Hants Cup)

There were numerous players making their Coal Exchange debuts and first appearances of the season in this game,  but the team seemed to gell and we produced a fantastic performance to beat Woolsbridge Utd 4 v 3 and progress to the Third Round of the Hants FA Cup...Cardiff Ere We Cum!!!

We started well with some good flowing football and some great passing moves,  but Woolsbridge scored first...a sloppy effort at the far post.  After that our makeshift defence got solid...Scholesy and Chalkie the usual rocks in the middle,  with Will Fellows and Peter Fellows at left and right back.  The running from midfield was sensational,  with Rob notching two tremendous goals.  Jez and Iain supplied quality balls for Jimmer and Bran to score.  Jon upended one of their strikers to conceed a penalty, and Danny (the third Fellows brother on show today) went one trick too far at the end of the game and gave away a sloppy goal,  but we still finished as 4 v 3 victors.  Burt made a super sub apperance for the last few minutes. It was an excellent game played in good spirit,  and the Woolsbridge lads joined us for sarnies in the pub before their long drive back to Bournemouth.
