Coal Exchange 5 v 0 Buckland Alexandra
It all went a bit pear shaped on Saturday. The ref failed to turn up, we agreed to play a friendly (with Jon's Dad reffing), we were 5 v 0 up before half time, and then at half time the Buckland players decided they had had enough and they all walked off!
The game will be re-played at a later date and the lads are very keen to repeat the massacre. For the record : Keith scored a brilliant hat-trick, a 20 yard lob being the pick of the bunch. Bran slotted a superb long-range rocket into the top corner, and Jez scored a wonder goal volley from all of 25 yards (no Jez it wasn't 35!!)
Next week we play Segensworth at Bartons Green at 12 o'clock. The early KO is because the England v Greece game KOs at 3pm.
It was a hard fought game in the Saturday sunshine, but the final scoreline flattered the winners. All agreed that Wymering were a good team but a scoreline of maybe 3 v 2 would have better reflected the game.
It started badly with Wymering scoring a couple of early goals. The defence tightened up with Colonel Mark and General Lee keeping the spirit up in the middle and Dunc and Simon chasing everything on the wings. Danny supplied the pass which allowed Matt to score the Coalie's first, but Wymering replied to make it 5 v 1. Jimmer & Geoff kept battling in the middle, and Jez and sub Lee helped keep it sensible. Keith scored a brilliant indiviual goal towards the end, and Jon made a couple of good saves. Dissapointing if not totally dissasterous.
First win of the season away to old rivals South Park. We rubbed out those cheeky little cartoon chappies good!!
Geoff (2) Bran and new signing Mike notched the goals after we went down to a couple of sloppy goals in the first half. Matt was pressed ganged into playing in goal (for the first time ever) and had a great game. Excellent result!! And up to fourth place in the League.
Next week home to Wymering.
The first point of the season for the Coalie was hard won against a tough Sharkys team. Sharkys scored first, but the Coalie equalised through Bran, after good build up work from Geoff, Jez, Lee Good and Jimmer. Again the Coalie went behind, and it could have been worse if not for some great saves from Jon and excellent defensive work from Simon, Mark, Lee and Danny. Duncan (newly wed) and Keith came on the for the final push and Rob scored in the final minutes to earn the Coalie the draw, and put them 5th in the league. Next week away to South Park.
It was a hot sunny day for our first game of the season. Unfortunately lady luck was not shining on us...even in our snappy new kit (look out for the new team photo coming soon). We went two down in the first half. In the second we pulled level with two goals from Sladie, but the killer blow came towards the end of the game after one of their strikers virtually rugby tackled our keeper!! Whinge Whinge!!
Hopefully we'll be more lucky next week at home to Sharky's.
