1st Mar 2003 Semi-Final Div 5 Cup Coal Exchange 8 v 0 Fittleworth Reserves Despite being under pressure for the first 20 mins the Coalie came good again with a solid 8 v 0 thrashing of Fittleworth in the semi-final of the Div 5 Cup. The gaffer was away on International Duty and the Skipper was also flying out for some warm weather training, so the team had a slightly different look to it this week. It took time for the players to gel, but once they did goals from Lee Good 2, Bran 2, Jamie, Keith, one OG and a first goal of the season for one of our star defensive players Andy sealed the win in emphatic style. The final will be played at a top league ground, probably one of the following.... Old Trafford, Anfield, Highbury, Arundel or Bognor!! 22nd Feb 2003 Div 5 South Amberley 1 v 3 Coal Exchange A very good win this week away to a very solid Amberley side. This puts us well clear at the top of Div 5 South and should mean we can clinch the title in the next few weeks. Great result!!

14th Feb 2003 Div 5 South Coal Exchange v Ashington Rovers Res OFF Ashington bottled it. They obviously heard how awesome we are at the moment and decided to stay home and watch Man Utd lose to Arsenal. There will be a meeting sometime to decide if the game will be replayed at a later date. Next week we are away to Amberley in the League. Kick-off is 2.00pm. Danny will be away on International Duty for the next two weeks so Scholesy will be running the team.

7th Feb 2003 Div 5 South Ambassadors Res 3 v 3 Coal Exchange This was one of the most exciting games that the Coal Exchange Football Club have ever been involved in. We made an excellent start and put all the pressure on the Ambassadors defense. Jamie, Lee Good, Geoffer & Danny were tearing them apart up front and they just couldn't catch Jamie down the right wing. But (unusually) we failed to take advantage and Ambassadors took the lead just before half time. After the break we all went a bit AWOL and let Ambassadors get right back into the game. Jon, Ollie, Andy & Tim held out well, but eventually we went another two goals down. It was 3 v 0 with 15 minutes to play, but the battling Coalie never give in and we piled forward to try and get back into it. Chalkie broke the goal drought (his and ours) with a delicate chip over the keeper, Keith pounced on a tame Bran free kick for the second and amazingly Scholesy shinned a cross over the keeper's head for the third. A fantastic fight-back and a deserved draw. Cheers to Tony and our frozen hordes of supporters. Next week we are at home to Ashington in the League. Kick-off is 2.00pm.

1st Feb 2003 Div 5 Cup QF Royal & Sun Alliance 1 v 9 Coal Exchange The Coalie go marching on. Another great win, this time in the Quarter Final of the Div 5 Cup. We put nine goals past poor old Royal & Sun Alliance on a very boggy pitch up in Horsham. Truth is if the conditions had been better we probably would have scored more (modesty - never a strong point!). The defense held solid again this week with Jon, Tim, Andy and Ollie playing with their usual confidence. Andy had a solid header from a Danny corner which went just over the bar, Tim had several good little runs forward and Ollie had several chances foiled by the mud when he was pushed forward into attack. Even Jon tried taking on the Royal & Sun Alliance players with a few precarious dribbles out of his box. Chalkie had a few good chances but failed to put any away this week (despite hitting the post twice!), and the Scholesmyster gave his usual drama queen performance! The goals came from Jamie 4, Bran 2, Geoff 2 and Lee Good. So we through the semi-final. The draw should be made soon. Win that and we could be on our way to Wembley...well maybe Arundel Rec!! Good away support this week from some new and old faces. And cheers to Jez for coming along as super-sub. Next week we are away to Ambassadors Res in the League. Kick-off is 2.00pm.
