11th Jan 2003 Div 5 South Coal Exchange 11 v 2 Petworth III Rumour had it that Petworth had drafted in some first team players for this game and to start off with they looked pretty good. They went one goal up early on, but we equalised with a close-range effort from Keith. They scored again after an unfortunate penalty. Tim got a hand to the ball, but unfortunately stand-in keeper Marc didn't. But then the mighty Coal Exchange turned on the class. Andy, Tim & Ollie (and later Geoff & Jezzer) worked away tirelessly in defense on a very difficult half-frozen pitch. Scholes, Jamie and Danny provided the creative supply in midfield and the goals started to flow. There were three more goals from Keith, two from Bran including a Beckham-like effort from the half way line (OK it was a bit closer than that), three from Lee Good that also included a brilliant longe range lob, a header from a corner from Chalkie and a real 'highlite' was yet another goal for the amazing marauding defender Ollie. All this action put the Coalie 11 v 2 up. Another great win and now five points clear at the top of the League!! Many thanks to our wonderful supporters (especially Freddy!!) Next week we are at home to Fittleworth. Kick-off is 2pm.
18th Jan 2003 Div 5 South Coal Exchange 7 v 1 Fittleworth Reserves Fittleworth provided more solid opposition in this game than our last encounter with them when we hammered them 12 v 2. They threatened returning goalie Jon a couple of times early on, but he was up to the task. We got on top and went three up before Fittleworth dug in and scored one to make it 3 v 1 at half time. Jamie continued to run them ragged down the right wing in the second half and added a hat-trick of goals to his seasons tally. The pick of the three was a volley after a pin-point free kick from Fellows! We eventually ran out 7 v 1 winners. Bran scored two before coming off to give Marc a runout. Lee Good scored his usual fourty yard screamer and Scholesy contributed a sneaky little close in goal when their defense fell asleep. Tim, Ollie, Andy and Chalkie all had outstanding games this week and all ventured forward on various occasions with varying degrees of success (it was mostly the birds in the trees behind the goal that were worried!) Surprisingly Super Striker Keith failed to score this week! Another top win. Many Thanks to the supporters and Tony the Lino. "WE ARE TOP O' THE LEAGUE" Next week we are at home to Amberley. Kick-off is 2pm.
25th Jan 2003 Div 5 South Coal Exchange 3 v 2 Amberley The Coalie Football Team won their 15th game of the season this weekend and stay well clear at the top of the league. But it was a far tougher game than we have been used to lately. Amberley are probably the main opposition in this league and proved it with some useful chances in the first half. But it was the mighty Coalie who went one up after a slick passing move involving Tim, Scholesy, Bran, Lee Good and Jamie. Keith slammed in his 33rd goal of the season! But Amberley fought back and scored twice to make it 2 v 1 at half time. We came out in the second half feeling we had Amberley and the ref against us (I know we would say that...but he was very very very bad.) Anyway the lads dug in and after yet another mazey run down the right wing Jamie made it 2 v 2. The lads at the back, Jon, Andy, Chalkie & Ollie worked hard to keep Amberley out as we pushed forward for the winner. An inspired substitution from the gaffer sealed Amberley's fate...Geoff slammed in a cross from close range to seal a very good win. Cheers to all the supporters and Tony the best lino in the league! Next week we are away to Royal & Sun Alliance in the Cup. Kick-off is 1.30pm.
