GU-11

The standard issue armament for VF-1, VF-4, and VF-14 series variable fighter

GU-11-X

In 2025 , the standard issue armament for VF-1 was upgraded slightly to take advantage of new technology. The GU-11-X gun pod is actually the prototype design for the gun pod used by the VF-11 Thunderbolt. Unlike the original GU-11, the GU-11-X uses clips of ammo.

GU-13/A

First introduced with the VF-11A Thunderbolt, the GU-13/A hand-held gunpod unit is a smaller version of the GU-11. The GU-13/A fires armor piercing 55mm shells and is the direct predecessor of the the GU-15.

GU-13/B

One of the initial problems with the GU-13/A was a tendency to jam if too much dust gets in the firing chamber. To overcome this, the GU-13/B featured a filter to help keep the weapon clean. Like the GU-13/A, the GU-13/B fires armor piercing 55mm shells and is the direct predecessor of the the GU-15. The new gun pod also features a mecha-sized bayonet mounted on the front of the weapon, for use in close combat with mechanized opponents.

GU-15

The GU-15 is the standard gun pod for the VF-19. It is the GU-15 Gun Pod produced by Howard Industries. Unlike the gun pods used by the original VF-1 Valkyrie, the GU-15 uses clips of ammo instead of a self-contained supply in the barrel of the gun.

XGU-116

The XGU-116 is the Marine Corps Multipurpose version of the GU-15 Gun Pod produced by Howard Industries. Like the GU-15 it uses clips of ammo instead of a self-contained supply in the barrel of the gun. The new gun pod brings back the armor piercing bayonet found on the GU-15's predecessor, the VF-11's MPGP. The large bulge at the end of the New MPGP contains a slewable laser ranger and IIR seeker that provides high speed ranging updates on the selected target and allows a +2 strike bonus. This is similar in concept to the gun aiming system of the old Mig-29's.

GV-17L

The primary weapon for both the VF-22 and VF/A-24, the GV-17L is produced by Howard Industries and General Dynamics. Like the original GU-11 gun pod used by the VF-1 Valkyrie, the GV-17L gun pods do NOT use clips of ammo, but instead have a large internal supply of ammo stored in the barrel of the pod. This allows the GV-17L to contain a larger supply of ammo and bypasses the need to reload while in the field. Once exhausted, the gun pods can only be reloaded by trained technicians at a supply base.

GU-22

The new GU-22 Gun Pod produced by Howard/General Dynamic is the main weapon of the YAG-37. Like the GU-15, the GU-22 uses clips of ammo instead of a self-contained supply in the barrel of the gun.

XS-06 HEAVY GUN POD

Designed and built by Three Star Heavy Industries, this immense weapon is designed specifically for use with the full armor variant of the VF-11 Thunderbolt. The gun can also be used by standard VF-11 Thunderbolts but must be held in soldier or gerwalk mode; the weapon is FAR too large to be carried on the underside of a VF in fighter mode. In addition, no spare clips are carried for the XS-06, as additional clips are too large to store anywhere on the mecha. One XS-06 is issued for each VF-11 Full Armor Thunderbolt.

XS-07 SNIPER GUN POD

The XS-07 always have been a polemic, not adapted to fast variable fighter combats, it had a weak tactical interest for the UN Armed Forces High Command. Its designers had the support of the Special Space Service and the UNSMC reckon squadron members thought, so they kept improving their design and finally won the approval of the VFX committee for a very limited production. The first trials proved disastrous as the pilots didn't knew how to operated the gun properly and always tried to use it at a wrong time and at wrong distances. Using a revolutionary technology coming from fold travels, the XS-07 disposed of a special sight using an antimatter tunnel to gain accuracy at long distances, finally the sight with its computer and the gun itself were packed in a special operation pack which was designed to be compatible with ANY stealth systems so it even fitted the old Nightmares of the marines. To be precise, 1% of whole UN Armed Forces are equipped with XS-07 actually; no further introduction of the weapon is previewed in the future.

Firing plutonium loaded shells and acting as a rail gun, the XS-07 is a deadly weapon which is generally used against a commanding mecha or a precise objective; very efficient in taking out a pilot or a critical system, the XS-07 is feared by the enemy but also by its users as it is a real "bitch" to use. IT is used exclusively by VF-17 and VF-22 units on special assignment.

MDC BY LOCATION:

Sight pack 100 MDC
Gun pack 130 MDC

NOTES:

  1. One Melee Action is necessary to stabilize the gun and acquire a lock. The XS-07 is useless in wild fire.
  2. Destroying the sight pack will render the sniper gun completly useless, it will still be capable of firing but without any accuracy.

NOTE: If the sight pack gets damaged in any way (not destroyed), one FULL melee round is necessary to recalibrate the gun and set the software.

PULSE LASER GUNPOD

The VF-11MAXL-T is armed with a custom gunpod tested by the Marine XMFA-611 during the Protodevlin War. The High Energy Gunpod is leftover technology from the X-9 Ghost Fighter that gained notoriety during the Sharon Apple Incident. Two barrels emit a high intensity burst of energy that causes extreme damage to its targets.

QUAD-BARREL GATLING GUN POD

The only close-range weapon carried by the VA-3 Invader a large multi-barrel gun pod somewhat similar to the classic GU-11 used by the VF-1 Valkyrie. The gun pod is hand-held when the VA-3 is in soldier mode, and is mounted on a special hardpoint along the centerline of the fighter. The gun pod can fire in either mode, but is limited to the forward arc of the bomber in fighter mode.

SEVEN-BARREL STEALTH GATLING GUN POD

The main weapon of the VF-17 is a concealed handheld gun pod that can be used in fighter or soldier mode. The gun pod is stored in a collapsed form in a concealed port on the right leg of the mecha when in fighter and gerwalk mode, and fires out of a special port near the top of the leg. Like the gun pod used by the VF-11 Thunderbolt, the Nightmare's gun pod uses clips of ammo. This is the only gunpod available to the VF-17, as others will not fit in the Nightmare's gun pod port in fighter/gerwalk modes.

HEAVY LASER MODULE:

This weapon is an alternative to the VF-17's standard gun pod developed by researchers aboard the Macross 7. It consists of a long tube which contains a heavy laser and a high-density capacitor that fits on the gun pod in place of an ammo clip. This one-shot weapon fires a beam which is powerful enough cut through the main body of most mecha on a single hit. (!) However, there are several disadvantages to the weapon. First off, the weapon is good only for one shot, after which the internal capacitor is completely drained. Second, in order to carry this module it must be stored in the VF-17's left leg, a spot that normally stores a spare clip for the Nightmare's gun pod. This effectively halves the ammo capacity of the VF-17, and greatly reduces its combat endurance. Still, many pilots feel that the tradeoff is worth it since the heavy laser gives them the ability to take out command mecha or even spaceships in a single shot.

SPEAKER GUN POD

The Kai Valkyrie of any Sound Force unit are armed with a very unusual gun pod as a main weapon. Instead of firing munitions, the Kai's gun pod instead fires large- caliber autocannon shells that each contain a high-definition speaker and radio receiver. (!) The shells are armor-piercing and can usually penetrate even the toughest armor, but once embedded in armor plate the speaker pods transmit sound waves into the mecha's body, filling the pilot's cockpit with loud rock music. In addition to their use as a distraction, the speaker pods have been known to cause spiritia reactions in the minds of brainwashed Varuta pilots, occasionally permitting them to defect to the UN Spacy.
