SABROSKE IN THE NEWS
Worker Profile:Paul Damschroder
  Paul Damschroder has been an
electrician at Sabroske Electric, Inc., in Fremont, Ohio, for the past 13 years and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 8, since 1973.   His quiet mannerisms and confident stature might best describe him as a satisfied man.
"I'm, happy at Sabroske's," said Damschroder.  "You are treated better than with some contractors.  The small group of people that work here ar all around my age and we get along pretty well.  That makes a big difference."
Damschroder is currently working at Curwood, in Fremont, where he is combining two separate shops into one facility.  As an industrial electrician, Damschroder is responsible for items such as installing electrical service for facilities, installing bus runs, drops for machinery, and circuits for air handling systems and exhaust units.
The Helena resident became interested in electrical work in high school, as his father was an electrical purchasing agent for pipe trades.  He first applied with the union while
a senior, but was denied because of the amount of schooling and experience.  Meanwhile, Damschroder attended classes at Terra Technical College in mathematics, electricity, and welding.
"Basically, the contractor will take me out, show me a little about the job, I figure out what is needed, and I put it together," said Damschroder.  "Every job is different.  The basics are always there, but every day adds a new challenge."
Like all journeymen at the Local No.8, Damschroder attended the four-year apprentice program, and he is very positive about the training and support he has received by being a union member.
"I know that being a union member has been to my advantage," said Damschroder.  "Without the union, I wouldn't have the wages, benefits, schooling, or half of what I own."
Damschroder also said that there has been a better line of communication formed between the management and labor which makes his job easier.
"Paul is a hard, smart worker and he produces a tight job." said Tom Decker of Sabroske Electric about Damschroder.  "He's a quality representative of the fine staff we have."
Damschroder and his wife have two daughters and one son.  In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, trapping and downhill skiing with his children.
