November 20th, 2001-Dilated to 2-3 centimeters! However, my blood pressure was up to 158 over 100, so the dr. decided to send me up to the hospital after he did a non-stress test for about 20 minutes. If my blood pressure stayed the same he wanted to induce me. Otherwise he would send me home. I had a teacher conference to go to before I went up to the hospital and I had to call my husband because he had decided to go hunting about 2 hours South of here. My mom took me up to the hospital around 2:30-3:00. My husband got there a little while later. I was there until about6:00-6:30. Of course my blood pressure was normal while I was there. I can't complain though. I don't want high blood pressure, but I was excited at the thought of finally delivering. I did start feeling some cramping while I was having the non-stress test at the hospital. The dr. told me to go home and come back in Friday for another non-stress test.
November 21st, 2001-Didn't sleep very well last night. Of course, I haven't slept well in the last 4 months! I finally gave up and got out of brd at 7:30am. I was having some regular cramping. Probably about every 10 minutes or so, but they didn't feel like contractions. It just felt like low cramping. By 9:00am they had not gone away whether I was standing, sitting, or lying down, so I decided to call the dr.'s office after I took a shower. They told me to come right in so, I left the kids with my husband and told him I would call him if I had to go to the hospital. The cramping was getting uncomfortable and when he examined me, he said, "Today is the day"! I was at 4 centimeters around 9:30am-9:45am. I called my husband and my mom on the way to the hospital. I was in my room with one of those lovely gowns on by 10:00am.
I was starting to have to breathe through the cramping. They still didn't feel like the contractions I'm used to with pitocin. I asked for an epidural. My husband got there around 11:00am I think. My dr. got there around 11:00-11:15am, but he did not want to give me an epidural yet because he wanted my contractions to be 3 minutes apart instead of 7, even though I was already 5-6 centimeters and 100% effaced. I convinced him that I was not going to be in labor that long and to just give me the epidural. However, he wanted to put me on pitocin to speed up the labor in case the epidural slowed me down. I was worried that he would start the pitocin before he gave me the epidural. The anesthesiologist finally got there around 10 minutes to noon. I got in position to get the epidural and in the mean time, the nurse was trying to check my blood pressure, but the stupid cuff wasn't working. The anesthesiologist kept telling her to move the belts from the non-stress test because they were in his way, and I started to have a cramp, I think I made it through that one because the anesthesiologist had time to put the catheter in for the epidural, but then I had another cramp and all of a sudden I had to push. The anesthesiologist hadn't had time to give me any numbing medicine and the nurses didn't believe me. They told me they would check me in a minute. The anesthesiologist taped the catheter in place and I layed down so the nurse could check me and she started calling for the dr. I pushed once and the baby was out! (I think I screamed pretty good!) It was a GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!! I am still in shock. I finally have a girl. Her name is Bronwyn Ariel. It's Welsh. The nurses were all in shock. They didn't think I was going to deliver that fast. Yet again, the dr. did not make the delivery. Nothing new! I got the shakes right after she was born, at 12:14pm. I knew you could develop them, but I had never had them with any of my other children. And I was freezing. I had about 5 or 6 warm blankets on me and I was still cold, and I'm never cold! One time when a nurse took my temperature it was high. They wound up putting me on an antiobiotic in case of infection, but the next time she took my temp it was fine. Then they tell me that they never got the results of my Group B Strep from my previous dr.'s office, so they had to check Bronwyn's blood to make sure she was okay. I spent Thanksgiving in the hospital and missed all of my baking, but I was still happy. I came home Friday morning and life is very hectic, but I'm still happy! My back is sore, but otherwise I feel great. I am sad though at the thought of never having another baby, but I am kind of relieved because I think my body could use a break. Maybe we will adopt. I would like to do that in a couple of years. Bronwyn needs a sister!
