Cemetery Photos from Clarksburg, WV
The Gore Cemetery is where Lewis and Hannah Mines are buried.  Actually, I wasn't 100% sure this was the Gore Cemetery, but the most prominent stone says Gore, and it does correspond to the location on an old map.  Most of the stones are so worn they are unreadable, and many can't even be seen under all the weeds.  The area is on top of a small hill, and very serene.  A neighbor said her son has seen ghosts there, of old-fashioned looking gentlemen, playing cards!
The stone to the right, which has been knocked over, is that of Emily Griffin, first wife of Lewis Henry Mines. It is one of many family stones in the Odd Fellows Cemetery near downtown Clarksburg. Below are Emily's parents, Benjamin and Eliza Griffin, also located in the central part of the cemetery.
Most of the stones in the lower half of this picture are of Mines family members, including James and Ellen Mines and some of their children; James Harvey and his family, and JH's  sister Elizabeth Ellen and her in-laws, the Morrisons. This is the Odd Fellows Cemetery near downtown Clarksburg.
This tree-shaped stone belongs to James  and Ellen Mines.  The small stone in the shadow to the right commemorates both infants, Porter and an unnamed daughter.  You can see its location in the photo above, next to my car.
My kids think my passion for cemeteries is disgusting, but a lot of history can be learned there, and you can still feel a sense of connection with your relatives when you visit.  Seeing their final resting place makes those long dead kinfolk seem real at last.
Much of the family of James Harvey Mines is buried within a few feet of his parents and cousin Louise.  This is the main memorial for JH and his wife Amanda.  Her unmarried sister, Madisonia, also figures prominently on the front of the stone.  On the reverse are the names of children Fred, Eva (wife of Earle Harris) and May (wife of E. R. Morrison).  Although May died in Warren, Ohio, she is buried in Clarksburg.
Louise, daughter of Lewis and Emily, never married.  She is buried between her mother and her grandparents.
