Topic: Miscellaneous.
Background: Sort of the soup to nuts category of the TOC forum, it covers a variety of issues--too many to be explored in any introductory statement.

MISCELLANEOUS |
GENDER COLOR: It would be useful if the members entering the room were
allocated a colour in the Chatters box based on sex eg pink for girls, blue
for boys and purple for couples! I am aware of some clubs that do this eg
new TalkMachine.com
Hmmm... interesting. Yahoo! Clubs uses the Yahoo! Chat interface...
i'll pass your idea along and see what they think.
SIGN UP A CLUB: The registration process and signing people up to
become club members is complicated and horrendous for those with limited
IT skills.Yahoo should simplify it.
The reg process is the same standard process throughout Yahoo! We are
working on better ways to implement it, but from the Clubs end, we have to
make due. Hopefully it's not too unbearable!
ERROR MESSAGES, GLITCHES: Members
often get 'Restricted Area' message when trying to get in club often
because they have used the wrong ID and /or password and not those used to
join club. This should be spelt out more on that screen as members dont
come in thinking they are no longer members of club.
Good point... we'll address that too with the merge.
ERROR MESSAGE ABOUT DELETED CLUB: That message about 'club may have
been deleted' that comes up in error sometimes is shit scary and should be
changed.
Haha, how scary? I'll see if we can lighten to tone on that.
CLUB SPECIFIC PROBLEMS
I can't answer every club specific email here... this sounds like it's
happening to your club in particular. For these, can you be sure to email
our customer care folks?
Just click "No" on the bottom of the form below and ask away.
Thanks!

ERROR MESSAGE ABOUT UNLISTED CLUBS: Does anyone else find the
page http://dir.clubs.yahoo.com/go_away.html
which displays the message big and bold "You are not allowed to
access this club" when accessing the name for a private or unlisted
club to be obnoxious? Wouldn't it have been pleasanter to have made the
URL page name /unlisted.html and the message: "Access to this club is
restricted to members by invitation only." or something
similar?
That's a good point too... i'll see if we have some
engineering time to redo these pages. It is actually pretty rude to get a
message like this when you're looking for a club.
ACCESS COUNTER: The inclusion of a counter that
would trip when someone accessed their account (ID and password). This
counter tick would include access to their e-mail or homepage as well as
clubs. Hotmail does this, other providers do, how difficult would it be
for Yahoo!?
I'm not sure what you're describing... i'll look at
Hotmail and get a better idea.
DEAD CLUBS: the determination would be made that an account was
no longer valid after some arbitrary period of time, such as: 90 days, 180
days, 365 days. Come on, if you can't manage to log into your account to
perform any function in over a three months, are you really using that
account?
Accounts are an overall Yahoo! determination, and
folks are still deciding what to do about inactive accounts. As for Clubs
specifically, we are going to clean up "dead" clubs in the next
couple months, removing those that have been inactive for an extended
period of time. The time frame isn't yet determined, but i'm thinking 3-6
months, somewhere in that time frame.
HOW MANY YAHOO! CLUBS:
Unfortunately, we can't release any information on the
exact number of Clubs and the membership figures. You can see the number
of listed clubs by going through the directory though, and seeing how many
clubs there are per category.
ALTERNATE EMAIL ADDRESS: Warren, I was curious what the purpose
of the additional alternate E-mail addresses is in our account info.
This is more for some of the other services on
Yahoo!... namely PayDirect which makes use of various email addresses for
micro-payments.
VOICE CHAT: Founders should have a choice concerning
voice chat use or not. It slows down the chat room.
I think this should be more of a user level choice.
If you would like to use voice chat, you can enable it. If not, don't
enable it. In terms of speed, the voice chat doesn't take that much longer
to load and use in all actuality.
GUESTBOOK: I think allowing clubs to have a guestbook would
definitely be a cool idea.
Hmmm... well do you really need a guestbook when you
have a place for people to share their thoughts and ideas on through a
message board? It seems like both aren't necessary -- most times personal
web pages provide this to allow guests to post thier thoughts about the
page they are looking at. Clubs provides this through the message board.
A COFFEE DISPENSER: installed in all clubs. (and possibly one
installed for Tylenol or Ibuprophen, too.)
Regular and decaf will be served in every club after the
merge. J/K =0P
