As you may have read, Yahoo! merged with eGroups, a
Clubs-like service with a more robust mailing list feature set. These two
services will merge in the new future, with the combined site making it's
debut around January or February.
What does this mean for you? A lot of the features you're been asking for,
including:
- Stronger customization
- Varying levels of permissions
(you won't have to choose to give someone full founder
ability
when all you want to do is give them the ability to
edit the photo album section)
- Full-mailing list features (email directly to your Club message area)
- Polling capability (create personal polls for your Club)
- and much much more.
MERGE WITH eGROUPS: This question comes from eGroups merger list.
Perhaps you can answer us here.
Yahoo! Clubs sites often crash. Many discussion groups moved away from
Yahoo! Clubs because of the unreliability of that platform.
In the merger, will Yahoo! be improving its reliability and server
capacity?
Will eGroups maintain separate servers from Yahoo! Clubs?
Yes, when we merge the products we will work very
hard on improving the reliabilty of both services. We won't have separate
servers though, since there won't be a separate Clubs and eGroups product.
They'll be one in the same.
REAL PEOPLE to hear real complaints and ideas to help improve
the clubs. Possibly a voluntary peer chat of community leaders from Yahoo!
clubs with input to the programming staff.
This is what the Official Club is for. Believe it or
not, i'm a "real" person. And i'm listening to your complaints
and suggestions for Yahoo! Clubs. =0)
WEBRING: Ability for clubsites to join
webrings.
That's an interesting suggestion. With the revamp of Webring, i'll see
how possible this is.
AUDIO, VIDEO: There should be a section where we can add audio
and video. Let's see, we have Photos, Links, News, Calendar, and a Message
Board so far. What's missing? Audio and Video would virtually make our
clubs, websites!
We'll be integrating Briefcase to Clubs, and from
here you can upload audio and video files to your hearts content.
