ADMIN TOOLS

CLUB EMAIL: How about snazzed up how we send out club email....like make it more ezine-ish. It can be sent with a photo/ club logo....and a nice organization resembling that of maybe a newspaper. Maybe a few places for a few other pics....3 max for the whole thing. We can pick a color and font for everything. That way our "ezine" club message can be different and more interesting to look at each week.

The eGroups merge will make it easy to send out newsletters and such. We're actually exploring the idea of letting you create customized backgrounds and themes to allow the "snazzy" types of messages you've described. What do you think guys... is this high on the list for requested features?

 CLUB EMAIL
: There is always some 'moaning minnie' who complains when I send EMail to members of the club using the Automail facility. They seem to think there is a mailing list and you can select who receives mail and who doesnt. Why cant Yahoo set up a facility whereby the onus is on the member to select whether he wants to receive mail or not similar in some ways to the new Message Board EMail facility?

Definitely. We'lll have a very sophisticated mail system in place when the merged product debuts. Take a look at eGroups - www.egroups.com. Their email messaging system is probably one of the best out there, and it addresses the problem you speak of above.

DELETE confirm is a strong priority in my list of suggestions.

Amen. That's one of the major efforts with the merge... a clean sweep of some really random UI issues like no confirmation for some deletions and confirmation for others. I think it's a necessity to confirm all deletions, especially since once that data is gone, it's gone forever. So we'll be sure to address this.

DELETE/BAN MEMBERSHIP: The delistng/banning of a member is too drastic and is more or less permanent unless they have a new ID,EMail addy and ISP. Sometimes chatters get a bit out of hand through too much drink or drugs etc or may not be aware of protocol and become temporarily obnoxious. A system whereby you could boot someone out and let them back in when they apologise or sober up would be advantageous!!

Yes, also it's a bad thing that someone can join your club, spam the message board and then leave the club before you can ban them. We'll create some sort of ban tool so this won't happen, and so you can edit this list and the effects won't be permanent.

DELETE THE CLUB: There should a facility for only the originating Founder to be able to delete the club with the co-founders being given all the other powers except that one.I live in fear that someone might do the dirty sometime or be hacked. A system whereby it needs the original founder and another founder to delete a member and ban him may also be worthwhile.
Yes, I mentioned this a couple times already. There will be a better level of permissions, so you can let someone edit and delete items in the club without letting them delete the entire club itself.

CLUB DESCRIPTION: This isn't a life or death question or anything, but I am just curious why the club descriptions are no longer italics?
We did this strictly for our International clubs. Certain Intl characters (mainly asian characters) don't render properly in italics, so we changed this to accomodate them.

MEMBER ACTIVITY: Some things I would like to have with members joining my club: an emailing telling me a new member has joined and -their email address- they are using for the club, so I can welcome them and explain how things work.
The stats area of your club tell you the IDs of those who joined currently. We're working on methods of integrating email alerts if a person chooses to receive them. Won't be phase one of the integration, but we'll have this. However we can't give you members' email addresses because this would violate our privacy policy. We can't give out personal email addresses -- if a person chooses to reveal it in their profile, you can find it that way.

RESTRICTED AREAS: MSN has a similar feature. you can have your club listed and people can view the club, but they can't join without getting permission from the moderator. i believe egroups has a similar feature...although you can choose which areas of the club to restrict from visitors too...i like that. will there be similar features to those above after the merge?
    Yes

LENGTH OF CLUB EMAIL: The length of your club e-mails can be no longer than 1,962 characters (including spaces). I just found this out the hard way :-(

WELCOME MESSAGE: I would like to have the ability to edit the "welcome" message when someone joins my club. since this is a feature of egroups i am thinking that this might be a new feature in clubs when the merge happens. is this correct?
Yes, this will be a feature.

CLUB STATS ARCHIVE: Many people would like to have the date that someone joined a club listed on the members page, and stats perhaps auto archived in the club calendar, or even posted to a page just for archiving the clubs stats. that page could be viewable to the founder or the founder and members.
This isn't part of the merge plans currently, but i'll keep it in mind for future feature development.

CLUB EMAIL TO SELECTED MEMBERS: It would be nice if the founders could select which member their email goes to. i suppose that the database used to email invites to a yahoo id could be used. for founder email, a page could pop up that displays the members of the club and there could be a checkbox that says "send to all members" and individual check boxes next to every memeber's name. it might also be nice, for larger clubs, if there was a space to type the user's ID in.

Try out eGroups... you can email individuals within your eGroup, and all members can do this, not just founders. We'll keep this functionality as well.

MEMBERSHIP DELETION: The merge will bring powerful tools for founders. Until this moment I propose the following temporary restriction:
A person joining a club cannot delete this membership in the first two days.
This time frame would allow the founder to ban spammers and harassing people.

I don't think it's a good idea to restrict people from deleting memberships. There are many reasons why people need to remove themselves from a club, for instance if they are getting deluged by numerous founder's emails and want to quit. To put in an arbitrary 2 day restriction on removing yourself from a club is not a good way to deal with harrassment. I think it will just add more problems to the mix.

MUSIC: founder's option to add music or voice message to pages.
We're considering adding one of these or both to Clubs after the merge... i'll keep you posted.

CLUB PICTURE: larger size for homepage photo.
What do you suggest? Currently the photo can be a maximum of 150 x 150.

EDIT CLUBS: Presented by a member of CFC: The link to "Delete Club" and "Remove Me" both have verification queries, which seem to be very similar. They are stacked in the member edit section and are pretty close together. It is likely that in more than one instance, as it happened to this member, a co-founder who meant to remove him-/herself inadvertantly deleted the club. It was not the person's intention, but the whole club was gone just the same. Could these links be given a few more degrees of separation?
We will rework the current edit/delete my clubs page with the merged product to help clear up confusion on these points.

UNDELIVERABLE CLUB EMAILS: To it's membership produces a lot of un-deliverable emails back. Of course we don't know our members email address to delete them off of the club since only their nick is showing up in our membership. Is there a way to link the email to the nick and remove them from the membership?
eGroups has a very sophisticated bounced email handling system which we will integrate into Clubs when we merge the two products. The process of figuring out who is bouncing will be quite simple once this is in place.
