World Bank President Paul
Wolfowitz arrives for a news conference at the
conclusion of the 2007 Spring meetings of world
financial leaders at the headquarters of the
International Monetary Fund in Washington, Sunday, April
15, 2007. The controversy involving Wolfowitz and his
involvement in a pay increase awarded to a close female
friend has put his position in jeopardy but President
Bush has stated his confidence in the embattled World
Bank president. Wolfowitz a former deputy defense

World Bank
President Wolfowitz Rejects Criticism of His
Leadership
By Barry Wood
Washington
12 April 2007
|
On the
eve of the semi-annual finance ministers meeting
at the World Bank and International Monetary
Fund in Washington, World Bank President Paul
Wolfowitz has rejected criticism of his
leadership. VOA's Barry Wood reports. |
Speaking to reporters Thursday,
Wolfowitz acknowledged that his nearly two-year
leadership of the Bank is under close scrutiny.
He apologized for recommending a salary increase
for a former female employee with whom he is
romantically linked. The woman received a large
pay raise when she left the bank and was then
assigned to the U.S. State Department.
When President Bush nominated
Wolfowitz for the top job at the bank, he was
the deputy secretary of defense, where he was
involved in planning the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Because of his ties with the Bush adminstration,
he has been unpopular with many Bank employees.
But the pay raise for the former employee, Shaha
Ali Reza, has sparked new controversy, and the
Bank's staff association is calling for
Wolfowitz to resign.
Wolfowitz says he will accept any
remedies that top officials at the Bank, who are
investigating the incident, propose.
Wolfowitz also said on Thursday
that, as World Bank president, he is not
pursuing a Bush administration agenda. He said
his loyalties are very much with the bank.
"I'm not in my previous job," he
said. "I'm not working for the U.S. |
|
government. I'm working for this
institution and its 185 shareholders. I
believe deeply in the mission of this
institution and I have a passion for it."
Wolfowitz says Sunday's meeting
of the bank's development committee will
emphasize an action plan for Africa. He says
this is a critical moment for Africa, an
historic opportunity for building sustained
economic growth.
"We're seeing in many parts of
the sub-continent [of Africa] remarkable
growth," he noted. "Roughly a third of the
non-oil producing countries, with roughly a
third of the population, have been growing at
four percent or better over the past ten years.
That's a pretty good record, and it is leading
to progress in education and in health and
closing the gender gap."
Wolfowitz called on donor
countries to boost their commitments to Africa,
saying they have fallen short of their goal to
double their assistance to the continent. He
called for new donations to the bank's
International Development Association (IDA),
which makes interest free loans to the world's
poorest countries. Donors have also pledged to
repay the IDA for loans written off by the World
Bank as part of the campaign to eliminate the
debt of the poorest African countries. |

After I wrote my previous letter of
Absorbing the Responsibility of "11"
Case on April12, 2007, about "my regret of having entered the
competition to get the love of the girl who lived next door at the
house number 11 in the year 1982. This regret also apply to all
other girls whom I have falling in love, I apologize for not having
a self conscious of being an improper person to fall in love to each
of those girls. If God could accept this as my repentant, and it
would then bestow God’s mercy, I wish it could be funneled to this
world, for the good of this world.......".
Then came the news about World Bank
President Paul Wolfowitz apologized for recommending a salary
increase for a former female employee with whom he is romantically
linked. The woman received a large pay raise when she left the bank
and was then assigned to the U.S. State Department. Her name is
Shaha Ali Reza.
It becomes important for me to write
abut this, since the news appeared after my previous letter of
Absorbing the Responsibility of "11"
Case and the girl's name is Shaha Ali Reza, a middle
east name. When in 2001 I approached Rahma Sarita, an middle
east Arab-Indonesian girl working at Metro TV, a few months
later came the news of her being married with a police man. The
first name of Mr. Paul Wolfowitz, Paul, is somewhat like
related with the word "police man". While the last name of
his girl friend Shaha Ali Reza, is like the name of Rahma
Sarita's brother Reza.
But of course I would not easily jump
into conclusion about the relationship of Mr. Paul Wolfowitz news
with Rahma Sarita case. But to be sure of, the attack on Iraq
took place a few weeks after I visited Reza's office in Rawamangun,
an office of wood products with main export to Iraq.
When President Bush nominated Wolfowitz for the
top job at the bank, he was the deputy secretary of defense, where
he was involved in planning the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
So if the news of her relationship with
Shaha Ali Reza also serves as questioning my relationship with Rahma
Sarita, then I think I have made my position clear, I would not want
to disturb her marriage.

Another news that appeared after my
previous letter of
Absorbing the Responsibility of "11"
Case was about Prince William's break up with her girl friend.
For this I also would not like to easily jump into conclusion about
this news relationship with myself. Or that maybe prince William
wants me to give an advice about whom he should match with.
Especially since the last time I gave
advice to his mother, to match with someone with strong political
power, it was followed a few months later by the car accident in
Paris that took her life away. I should not repeat the same mistake
with prince William I think. All I can do is to wish that he could
find his perfect match and live happily ever after.
