Stresemann organised the Dawes Plan, in 1924, to reduce German payments to the allies. The strike in the Ruhr was over, and the French army was getting ready to leave. Subsequently, many Germans were supporting the government, and stopped listening to the extreme ideas of Nazis and Communists. Companies all over Germany went bankrupt, workers were sacked, and unemployment soared. The plight of the majority of Germans was dire they were plunged into poverty.
