WELCOME

Welcome to the Scots Haunbuik. The aim of the Haunbuik is to act as a short guide to the Scots Language, and especially its written form. Scots is great fun to speak and write and, if you are an English speaker, you'll find fluency comes remarkably quickly. And for you lucky folk brought up in Lowland Scotland you'll suddenly realise that just a bit of practice stands between you and genuine bilingualism.

Scots is a very accessible and entertaining language. The Haunbuik, however, was written for those with a basic knowledge of spoken forms so it is probably a bit dry for a genuine beginner. Send me your ideas and I'll do what I can to improve it.

You can download an old (zipped) text version (V1.1) of the Haunbuik (which includes the FAQ and Historie) or Mark Devlin from Boston has done a Word for Windows translation of the 1.0 version.
