For the love of    Channel 4  Shown in the late 1990's

This late night alternative talk show when dealing with paranormal issues was a breath of fresh air.During the 80's with the emergence of Daytime TV the people's talk shows proliferated although at first they were interesting, they got very tiresome very quickly.Nobody ever had enough time to argue a point properly and sensible arguments got lost among the general chaos and anyway that wasn't point, the producers wanted confrontation to lift ratings. The same applied with paranormal discussions which needed much more sensitive handling than ordinary subjects. But the obligatory 'experts' e.g. Chris French or Sue Blackmore were trotted out repeating all the old arguments, which combined with ordinary people;s opinion's and some eccentric paranomal enthusiast drowned out any coherent discussion.
However 'For the love of' with it's late night, low key, empty studio feel with just a presenter and a bunch of enthusiasts produced a satisfying, relaxed introduction into whatever it's particular subject was Particularly interesting for me,was the insight it gave me into the investigators themselves.Among the subjects it dealt with were Cryptozoology,Alien Abductees,Diana conspiracy and Lunar conspiracy.I have these on video and quite often return to them to cross reference some point or other and find myself enjoying it all over again.
The Oprah Winnfrey Show

Well I know this has nothing to do with the paranormal, but Hey it's my website! And during the 90's she did heve some programmes on a variety of paranormal subjects, which I did enjoy. However since then for some reason she's ended up in the TV backwater known as Channel 5,which I think is a shame, because she's head and shoulders above all of the rest of the daytime talk shows.
For a lot of UK people she's maybe a bit too touchy-feely for their tastes and frequent mentions of the word 'spirit' will not endear her to the cynical, secular attitude that prevails over here. But that's a shame, because I believe she genuinely wants to help her guests and to make a difference to this world. The contrast between her show and programmes like 'Trisha' which while pretending to help people are just basically exploiting tham. They call it victim TV and it seems to be on the increase even in this country,so a programme like Oprah's is like a breath of fresh air and even if it comes with a coating of familiar American themes of making money and an obsession with success,so be it.
For me the word 'spirit' doesn't jar any more with me,because after over 20 years pondering many subjects on the paranormal I'm convinced that something seems to survive bodily death. However,I have no religious framework to put it in and so I'm quite comfortable with Oprah's use of this word and her open hearted,non-denominatioal approach to people and their problems. She's the quintessential American,in that she's totally relaxed and herself in the front of the camera. What particularly endears her to audiences are her asides which are so refreshingly ordinary and non media drivel. She's always bringing things down to earth if her guests get carried away.
What I will say,is that some of her programmes broadcast during 1999 and in 2000 have some life changing material in it,and if you saw some of them you would have to heart of ice not to be moved by them. And also there was some brilliant, practical, jargon free advice by her guest speakers to help us to understand our lives and the problems we all face, which were so invaluable they should be taught in our schools
But then she'll have some star guest like Celine Dion on (Oh dear!) and she turns into a starstruck teenager who uses the show as her own personal jukebox and the spell is broken,.
